To be fair, the idea that you would have a genuine need for a gun for self-defence in Canada is pretty ridiculous and paranoid.

If someone gets stabby stab with you I wish you luck in the defense of your life. Better hope you’re Steven Segall. A hammer? Okay good luck. You might get lucky and receive coloring books for Christmas for the rest of your life. Machete? LOL!

I’m pretty sure the risks associated with continuously keeping an easily-accessible loaded gun around mastodonically outweigh the risk of some random dude spontaneously deciding to stab me.

Sorry Roadrunner, if a person feels their life is at risk, then deadly force can be used defensively. Maybe not in all states, but I know in the states I hang out in that is certainly the case. And to add to that, if you feel someone else's life is at risk, you have the right to defend them as well.

This does not mean there won't be at least an investigation into the "why" and "how" of the use of deadly force, but if determined to be a valid threat to life, the use of a gun will be OK.

Your argument does not hold water except maybe on the coasts.

Sorry Tex, but I never said you shouldn't use deadly force if your life was at risk. I said you're pretty much obligated to respond in like kind.

If a guy is coming at you spouting off he's going to "open a can of whoop-ass" on you and all he has is his fists and put three into his center of mass, I hope you hit it off good with your cell mate.

It's really not difficult to understand that a 120 lb female is in clear and eminent danger if a 225 lb male that stands 6'4" is coming at her, or a machete wielding psyhco is 3' away coming at you in a downswing.

I really don't have the patience or crayons to explain it any further to you...

I normally don't chime in on these threads, they never end well...but,

It's hard to believe that after watching police with ARs arrest people for trying to go to work or church over the last two years, hunters and gun owners would still be willing to have their rights infringed upon further.

Lil story....

In April of 1992 a friend and I were running a float box, stocking trout. As I got ready to leave that morning I picked up my SW 6906, shoulder holster and spare mag. Put it back down thinking the last thing I need is the additional weight and just being in the way. Ended up taking it anyways.

We started our stretch about 10am and stocked about a mile of stream finishing around 2pm. Running a float box is hard work on small streams, blow downs, shallow water, etc... As we approach our take out point, a small bridge with a road that leads to the main road, there are for lack of better words, five biker dudes. They ask if we are going to stock this part and I responded "No, it's just shallow flat water and besides we put the last of the fish in about a 100 yards upstream." He repsonds "Oh so you only stock where you fish?" I tell him "We don't even fish this stretch much, lt alone the first day." And that's when the threats started. They started to spread out and the ringleader was stating how they were going to **** us up real good. Told he "Look I just want to get to my truck and have something cold to drink." And he said "That's not going to happen." At this point Mr. Bigmouth is about ten yards away. I stopped opened my jacket and placed my hand on the grip of my pistol and asked if there was a problem. His eyes got as big as plates, he put his hands up, palms facing me and said there was no problem. I stood there, hand on my pistol until I heard the bikes start and leave. And that's when the shakes and nausea started. Almost to the point of puking. There was no place to retreat. No backing up. No de-escalation. Five guys looking to rock and roll.

I was told once that if five bad ass biker dudes wanted to **** us up, they would have. Be that as it may, the ringleader was taking the first two center mass. I still remember with utter clarity of what I was going to do, had it escalated. His comment "That's not going to happen" was a pure threat of intent to do bodily harm. And I still think how I almost left my weapon at home.

Can’t wait for the brainwashed to chime in on how you’re wrong.

Firearms are the great equalizer of force. Every man naturally uses the best weapon to defend himself and his family - that happens without societal input. Firearms are the best weapon for that.
Glad you handled it how you did and everything worked out the way it did.

The 2nd Amendment was written so that citizens could protect themselves from their government. That's the main intent and shows how much it's been infringed upon. No other country in the world that I know of has freedom of speech and freedom to protect themselves. Many others in other countries don't understand and think we are crazy. Freedom comes at a cost, freedom of speech and the others we have that most other countries do not. Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety paraphrased from Benjamin Franklin.

A first hand experience that shows the old saying, "Better to have it, and not need it, then to need it, and not have it". Is a wise one.

If the majority in this great country want to strip gun rights away, the correct way is to amend the Constitution. It won't happen because it's difficult to amend the Constitution as it should be. It's been done as recently as the nineties I remember. Want to drastically reduce gun crime in America arrest the gangs and black criminals for gun crimes and prosecute them. More importantly, address black families without fathers and inner city crime. According to Reuters in 2020 Black deaths by guns was 26.6 per 100,000 and for whites it was 2.2!!!!! Total number of homicides was 62% for Blacks and 21% White at same time. Suicides was 8.1 per 100,000. The number of killed in mass shootings, awful in it's self is a tiny number compared to the total homicides.

or after watching them sit on their hands while someone shot a school up and still think that they care or will be there to protect you.

At two AM when someone breaks down your door with the intent to do you and your family great bodily harm, are you better off arming yourself or calling 911 and waiting five mins for a response. Now is the time to make that decision, not at two AM.

That's why Canada remained under British Imperial rule until World War I and Canada still has 2 limitations upon full Canadian autonomy remain. One is in the administration of justice. The highest court of appeals is the Privy Council in London. LOL. The second limitation is that for important amendments of the written part of the constitution. Vive la Canada!!

That is why there is a gun in the nightstand but it is on my wifes side because I probably wont wake up until she starts shooting. I am amazed at some of the crap I have slept through in my life.

Indeed, that’s no doubt a considerable source of hardship for Canadians.

On the other hand, the country is a lot less violent than the US.

Fantastic!! You keep your less violent country with strick gun and speech restrictions and I'll live free with more crime. It's important to note that our high crime is rooted in demographics that you don't have and if you did your crime would approach ours regardless of your lack of freedoms.

Having worked with the RCMP for 17 years I would say you are clueless. Violent crime is getting worse every year in Canada and is a big issue

I love the little dig at the end like I am some mental midget...very leftist tactic btw, when you cant argue with fact start name calling or being derogatory and that'll shut down the convo.

Anyway, I can guarantee you if someone came at me and started wailing on me or one of my family members and I shot that person in self defense for fear of life, I would not be going to jail. Your idea that like force be used against like force is just nonsense, I ask this in all seriousness, where do you live?
