Yamaha or Honda ATV Recommendations

Pioneer is an awesome machine with 2 intolerable flaws. The dust is unbearable and the engine heat under the seat scalding. If Honda would fix that I would have another.

There are fairly easy fixes on the pioneer forum for the heat. Basically adding some heat shielding really helps. I like it when it’s cold out, but have not found it to be too serious of an issue when warm out.

There are some benefits to UTVs but how do they compare ride-wise? The ones I’ve ridden in before are slower, with less terrain capability, less clearance, and the ride is really rough compared to a nice ATV.
I believe the UVT's ride just as good as ATV's. If you get a 1000 it will go plenty fast and go wherever you would need to go. They are much more versatile than an ATV with the ability to comfortably take 2 or more people depending on the model. A roof and windshield makes for more comfort as well especially in cold weather or in the rain. And the Pioneers have a dump bed which is really handy. You can haul tons more stuff in the bed than on the back of a ATV. They are perfect for around the farm or hunting. I have a Honda ATV and UTV and I almost never use the ATV any longer since I bought the Pioneer.

What are the negatives/benefits of the IRS Rubicon vs Foreman straight axle?

IRS rides better but has more moving parts (expense and maintenance). I think the trade off is worth it in favor of IRS if you have the budget. They somewhat ride like a tank already so anything helps.

Still digging our Kodiak 700 - carried out 2 mulies last week with them. Space enough for two riders, a dead critter, and gear!

My last machine was irs and for whatever reason the rear cv boots seemed to catch sticks or debris and tear. My rancher now is solid axle. It may ride a little rougher but I don’t worry about cv boots anymore.

Don't overlook the 420 Rancher, great machine. I also have owned a Grizz 700 and Kodiak 700, also great machines. Less maintenance with the Hondas though. No belt is always a plus, but if you're going to be belt driven Yamaha is unmatched.

Can’t speak for the newer models, but when I was a kid we had a ‘95 Honda Foreman, and I think the only fluid that ever got checked was the fuel level. That thing was beat down and shown no love and rolled on like a champ. If I was in the market I’d being giving Honda a strong look based on past experience.

I have a 20 yr old Honda 250 ATV. When it dies, will get a Kowasaki Mule SxS and ride that til it dies. In my position, no reason to get another ATV with the UTV/SxS availability.

I bought yamaha kodiak 450. Don't need the 700. And if you get the sp.can still get diff lock. Very pleased with it. My last atv was 01 yamaha Grizzly and it's still going. Have done very little repairs on it.

No, this one has EPS + dif lock. It's worth it. Like a lot lol.

450 class you can get by but 7-800 class, especially in 4WD with weight (aka that pic) power steering is worth it. Yamaha does a really good job with their PS... Not wobbly or too much, just enough.

I have a 93' honda fourtrax 300 4x4 and a polaris sportsman 700 that replaced a yamaha grizzly 600. I've owned a mule also.

The honda gets ridden the most but isn't ideal for 2 due to it's size, power will do it....but it's cramped for 2.

The mule was indestructible. I have hauled 3 elk at once in it through hell and it just quietly took it like a boss.

My grizzly was problem free for several years and I wanted another but found the polaris on tracks and it's been good to me....but I leave the tracks on it so it's not getting to see a lot of miles.

I want another sxs and believe it'll be a kawasaki teryx4 or ridge. For 22k you can have a ridge with heat, av, glass, power windows and kawasaki quality......the teryx4 can be had for 13k....but full tops are hard to come by. I will only consider a kawasaki sxs as I have been left stranded by canam and polaris and the kawasaki is underpowered and over built.
