To walk a few hundred yards I would just carry the rifle.....

Yeah man, me too. I dont recall the last time I had a sling on a hunting rifle but it's been a number of years and I haven't even used a gun holder on my pack for a long time. Either strapped for a long walk outside of hunting area/hours or hand carried. Slings just seem to get in the way more than help.

Stainless or blued?

Stainless... The stainless model was $797 out the door on Guns2U and $822 out the door on Battlehawk this morning but it looks like both are now showing out of stock. They went fast apparently!

You should have no problem snagging a stainless for under $800 out the door with some persistence and daily checking of gun.deals. They've hit a couple times on gun.deals at those prices now since they initially rolled out last month. Just make sure to use the 'email me price' on the linked vendors.

the only sku/upc available in the US for a stainless 6mm tikka is 22"... Certain vendors list it as 20" in their descreption, but they are wrong, they are all 22". There is no 20" product sku/upc in existence today.

the UPC you noted there is most certaintly 22". It's the same UPC I ordered this morning and the same UPC that Unknown and EuroOptic is selling, and is 22"..

The Tikka website listing confirms that a 20" model is likely in the works, but there was quite a few months between when we first saw the 22" version listed there and when we actually saw a corresponding UPC/SKU in the US, and even longer before the 22" version hit stores.. There will be a 20" at some point clearly, but I wouldn't hold your breath and certaintly wouldn't count on one before hunting season.
