I will never understand why outfitters are protected so much. And why states cater to them to protect their businesses.
I’m an outfitter, and I agree with you. I’ve watched it in my own state that there’s this push to limit nonresident hunters, but they really end up mostly limiting the DIY guys. There’s always loopholes for the outfitters to get tags.

I do care...I still apply in Arizona for a rocky mountain bighorn. I reentered the draw in 2013 with 2 points right out of the gate. Already up to 11 for Rockies now...I drew desert with 11. I'm feeling real good about my chances to draw another sheep tag in Arizona this year. 11 is my lucky number.

Oh and guess what else as a nr I'm limited to "up to 10%" of the sheep tags there.

I haven't threatened to file a lawsuit or called the residents of Arizona greedy either.

See how that works?
That's a bit different than buying pts for 20 years for a chance at 25% of the tags, to have it later reduced to no more than 10% after being significantly invested. That's the crux of the change, not the change itself.

I am a Wyoming resident and I don't like this. I think its messed up. I hate seeing opportunities go away and its a slippery slope. Once one thing goes away its a lot easier to take the resident opportunity away next. And besides, even though I have better odds and getting my sheep and goat tag, its hardly better odds at all and will most likely result in increased tag costs on my end.
Exactly

Speaking of pigeons….

Except the pigeon did win.

Now it’ll be interesting to see who’s math and theory on revenue was correct. Also, the residents against this need to speak up because the non resident opinions don’t matter. Also, all this talk about point squaring is garbage. It’s just as bad of a system as preference points. Either keep points or go to random draw.

Wrong.

Correct answer is let the residents of the state decide what's best for our wildlife.

Same luxury you're afforded in your state of residence.
But doesn’t sound like that’s actually what happens in reality, more of a what the politicans decide is what happens state, like most states in reality. Although CO voters have had options to vote on issues related to wildlife.

This thread should open peoples eyes on the fact that all point systems are failing and need to be replaced. With the 90/10 in Wyoming even a kid getting in at 12 years old will most likely never draw a tag.

LQ deer and elk are going that way across the west too, not just the big 5. New Mexico’s allocation is garbage, but at least it’s an even playing field for everyone.

Something needs to change or NR hunting will decline.

I know changes need to happen and I agree, IF tags need to be cut due to herd HEALTH, not people’s feelings, non residents should be the first to go.

Pricing out someone who punches in for 60 hours a week. Or providing more to outfitters is going to hurt us IMO. Not a fan of outfitters in the first place but that’s a talk for another thread.

I personally can’t stand the thought of hunting, regardless of location and your license plate, being only for the elite.

I could see nr hunting a guide only endeavor in the future. AK does it already for certain species.

I wish every Western State would do this same thing, until herd numbers are back up. The States greed have ruined the herd numbers and few State reps will ever listen to the public at the earliest stages and always reply with the same crap statement, "well according to our biologist's numbers"....
Utah just realized the deer and cow elk numbers are way below what their projected numbers according to their plan should've been. Guess what ,? Their plans suck- period. Too much $$$ in hunting over the past 10-15 years and they fell into the trap of greed.
Good for Wyoming, C'mon Colorado, Utah, Montana, Idaho, all of you need to shut NR crap down and take care of your herd numbers and your own residents FIRST.

Same and that makes me sick. I’m not a fan of the outfitting business to begin with and am more of a believer in that if you want to go kill something, you should be able to accomplish it yourself.

On top of that the price to play comes along. People well off will be able to hunt every year, it’s like that some places already. While the middle class will struggle and not make it out all that much. Some people are okay with that, I personally am not. I don’t see how a guy or gal working 60 hours a week shouldn’t be able to reasonably afford to spend their time off hunting.

I will likely never hunt alaska for anything that requires a guide. My wife and I have decent jobs and both work full time. The price to play is just out of our league

Except for the outfitter pool. If you put the pen to paper with one of them, you get upgraded to a new pool of tags

Colorado’s elk herd is doing just fine in most places.

You know this by all the B List cow tags being given away like candy on Halloween.

I am a new wyoming resident this law won't effect me at all I will never draw a tag. But the fact that everyone saying there needs to become a court issue seams a little over the top. I looked at buying points about 10 years back and doing the math could tell at that time it is no different then buying a lotto ticket. If the allocation stayed the same it would currently take 20 years to clear out the top point holders down to people with 20 points and people will still be buying points so as bad as it sounds it really didn't change much there are currently just over 1000 people with 20 points to max its sucks but it could be worse.

I agree. 100%. In order to achieve the most benefit, These states also need to stop relying on so much NR money to manage their lands. The states clearly have the resources at this point. Its time to transfer these vast amounts public lands to the states so their own residents are in the best position to benefit from them.
