Did I read an earlier post incorrectly or can’t people still apply for the normal regular draw at regular prices, and those who want to can apply for the special draw at the new increased price. The specific draw price increase would probably decrease draw odds in the regular pool and increase odds in the special draw, which is the design of the special draw.
Is special draws price changing, maybe I miss read it but what I understand is they are moving tags from the reg draw to the special bracket. So fewer tags in the reg draw.

Did I read it wrong? I thought the price increase was for the special draw?
I think the increase is in that tags that were in the reg draw will be moved to the special, so they will have an increase in whatever tags are moved to that pool but not an increase in price for the special draw, making the special easier to draw unless everyone puts in for it.

Maybe I read it wrong.

The way I understand it the prices for the special draw will go up, not the regular, and I don't know where "moving tags" came into this.

Does the special currently receive 40% of tags? I thought it only got 20%. 2 years ago I paid over $1300 for the special with the tag and fees.

The tag split is staying the same 60 reg 40 special the proposal is to increase the tag price in the special the numbers listed in that article are the fee in addition to the regular tag fee to enter the special draw

Elk tag will be 1268+692=1960 for a special elk tag

add in the conservation stamp and archery stamp and feed ground permit going to be a 2100 plus general elk tag.

LOL. Whether we like it or not Wyoming has made the decision that fewer wealthy nonresident hunters are preferable to the unwashed masses. They have learned from the real estate changes in the NW corner what's possible, and will continue down that path. The guide organization and landowners who lease to them are on board. Oh well.

These are the good old days.

We'll need to remember that "wyoming" is not just elected officials and bureaucrats, lobbyists, it's also residents, new or otherwise.

If residents sit by because they aren't hurt by it, yet, they'll be a day where resident tags and prices will equal yesteryears non resident policies.

lets take a look at USFW numbers (i do not know anything more than this is direct from USFW):

1673189925151.png
non resident to resident cost - NR to R hunters ----all rough approximations:
+colorado 4:1 - 1:4
+montana 3:1 - 1:8
+wyoming 3:1 - 1:2
+idaho 2:1 - 1:6
utah 1:2 - 1:10
oregon 1:4 - 1:20
washington 1:16 - 1:60

im not a statistician, but if the (western) states elect to continue to limit NR, they (.gov) will want the same or more money for the same or less opportunity.

"first the came for....."

but while we are at it with the "theres too many hunters i have to compete with":

Western state residents, your issues are Canis Lupis and the Politicus Assus, not Non-Residents. but here we sit, renting the land we own.

Brutal for normal NR hunters who aren't loaded. I've just got a handful of WY points but prospects dimming.

If WYFG simply looked out for it's own budgets and residents, guided by a "free market economy",
how high do you think they could raise NR fees before they no longer sold out of all their deer/elk NR tags?

Don't agree with it, but with such high demand and so little supply, my guess would be quite a bit.

You can still use the public lands in wyoming in other ways. There is excellent pine squirrel hunting, rock collection, and wild flower viewing there.
