It laughable that we are talking about the pentagon’s budget and the wildlife research budget in the same thread. Doge is currently going after the things that cost a penny (like wildlife research) and ignoring the programs that are actually crippling our balance sheet like military spending, Medicaid, and social security. Cutting funding for wildlife research moves the needle approx. 0.0000001%. The administration just wants you to think it is addressing the root cause of our debt and so they are making a big hoopla about it.

Not agreeing or disagreeing with anything in this thread. But pennies equal dollars, there are hundreds if not thousands of "penny" programs being cut. Of course nothing will compare to the military budget but its a start.

I am cautiously optimistic corrections will be made in the future like this program and USFS important roles that are being axed. Time will tell.

They haven’t cut anything yet. By law the money appropriated by congress has to be used for its intended purpose. Executive orders don’t change that, and the courts are already reversing many of the idiotic things done for visual effect.

The firehose of chaos doesn’t overcome common sense. It’s taking from people actually working and giving it to the rich.

These cuts have nothing to do with the deficit or reducing debt. I wish people would stop using this aguement. The 2026 budget is increasing the deficit. Not to mention the loss in revenue from tax breaks will add 5-20T in debt. Tariffs won't make up the difference, if anything the will reduce the economy and then equal more lost revenue.


This stuff is just about shrinking the size/reach of the government only in areas that those in power at this time want to. Whether it's wildlife conservation, due process, humanitarian aid, or whatever, these just are not priorities for this admin.

Like many things in life, the common sense of a grade school kid is often better than bizzaro ideas from a politician convincing you to pee into the wind, to believe up is down and down is up, or take away 25% of their ice cream and say they are better off.
