Trump Admin will ask Congress to eliminate USGS Biological Resources Division

Cooperative Research Units. Part of the USGS that is housed at Universities. They work with your state agencies on a lot of research in the fish and wildlife realm.

Starting to get a little more attention in the press and on social media. Article specific to Alaska but the general takeaways are not. https://www.adn.com/alaska-news/sci...l-science-programs-in-alaska-researchers-say/
I’m concerned the publicity is going to be too late. The organizations that would be fighting this on the hunting side are too engaged in the public lands amendment deal to handle this right now. Unfortunately, I feel as though if the RIF goes through after the lawsuit is straightened out, there will be no way to fund these programs in the budget since those folks would have already been removed. These programs have existed for 90+ years with bipartisan support and now we’re just going to slash them. Really frustrating to me, personally. $200 million dollars on furniture for the pentagon in September just to meet their budget is literally 2/3 of the Ecosystem Mission Area’s 2024 budget and yet the Pentagons budget is being increased while they’re trying to remove this program. Talk about government waste.

Yep, all of the recent and still growing support for science based management, yet it's somehow fine to dissolve the only branch of DOI dedicated to fish and wildlife science.

Losing today’s research, and killing the program where a large percentage of the people who do this science get their training.
