Wyoming is nuts !!!

But it is impacted by the points systems and increased fees that States use as money makers. Fish and Wildlife organizations used to be about providing a service, not a for profit business.
I think you are drastically underestimating the cost to manage a states wildlife. There are a ton of needed projects they still can't afford in Wyoming. I also agree with the post above. License costs definitely have not kept up with inflation. I know the recent increases feel like allot, but they went through almost the last 20 years without increasing much before that because they struggled to sell all the tags. Now that demand is up, they are trying to catch up.

I hate paying the higher prices, but I understand the need and I really want to see improved management so I'll gladly pay the higher tag prices.

So you don't mind if our American Hunting Heritage grow farther out of reach for those who would love to hunt?
Hunters do this to themselves. The guys driving the price up, buying up the pref points and tags, and just loving to hunt are driving things out of reach.

It has always been that the guy with more money has more fun and does more.

I’m at the point life where I’m busy with work, family, business ect so I try and go on a guided hunt every year or two. With that the best way to do it is lock in a couple years in advance and plan accordingly. I’ve also found hunting overseas is a good value if you start to factor in landowner tag and guide fees and usually they have a better success rate. If you make a long weekend with your wife at one of the larger shows Sci, DSC, western hunting expo ect you can talk to a bunch of different outfitters and look them in the eye before giving them a deposit to ease your worry.

True but it seems like even just drawing a tag has gotten insane in many places.
A tag or "the tag". There's a difference.

I still think a lot of it is on the Boomer generation blowing their load before they are too crippled or die. Once they are gone our whole society is going to change as that demand for houses/tags/whatever decreases substantially.

Heck I paid for 20 years of points in Wy only to have them declared worthless and all for a guided hunt that I can go in canada for less and don't have to donate to their points fund.

Wyoming screwed a lot of people over that’s for sure. I didn’t have 20 points, but I was close to that.

I'm curious what you mean by " paid for 20 years of points in Wy only to have them declared worthless"? What happened?

Some of the Montana places are as high as elk as well. Might as well go after an elk and double/triple the meat take home capacity.

He is referring to the 90/10 change for moose and sheep. Plenty of threads on here about it. With so few tags, it essentially put hunts out of reach for most.

There are hundreds of outfitters. Once you get past the high profile guys, you will find openings more reasonably priced and available sooner. Some of the best ones don't even pay for a website. They thrive on return business but occasionally can slip new hunters in.
If you look hard enough you can usually find some younger guys that have been guiding for a large outfit and just recently struck out on their own.
That’s a sweet spot for availability and price.

Gotchya, thanks. I’m still hoping they move it to a lottery squared points draw.
They have a small legal problem that is keeping them from doing that. Many of us with a pile of points waiting for a chance to draw would take exception. As more people drop out, I guess the class action gets smaller and smaller though.

No! That's the worst possible scenario.
Well they need some sort of fix. If I was a top points guy I would want it to stay, but I'm not.
Where I live, they kept most units on the point creep regime but changed 2 high quality units to random draw, not squared points though, complete random and thats not great, no benefit to increase your odds. The zones that stayed on points give 2 tags out per year, and the top pool with 24 points has about 125 people in it.

Forum white noise.
I'm still waiting for the lawsuit over the WY wilderness law, going to 90/10 for S/M, and AZ going to 5%/5% NR split.

Discussed, proposed, and defeated.
This was all hashed out during the task force days, sent to TRW, and what you see is what you get for the foreseeable future.
