Wyoming Elk 2026 - Will 6 points guarantee a west region general tag?

Right now a friend is going to share his points, and we would hunt an area I hunted some years back. We will average out at 7. Kinda feel bad for him dumping 10+ years. Maybe throw him a few bills, but Inguess the trade off is a proven area.

Thank you for the offer! That's very generous. We're thinking we're gonna save Wyoming until 2027 being we're due for the general tag in Montana in 2026, and I only have time to do one or the other.

Hunt partner also has 10, I have no suggestions for him other than applying for area x and hope for a random. He's not allowed to apply for a Gen license. Once he draws he'll have to decide if it's sit and wait on a random tag or hunt Cows.

Even that guarantee isnt guaranteed. That is what they guess based on last year. If a bunch of point holders decide to dump again the creep will rise again.

I believe what they told you is that 5.5 was guaranteed and 5 was 45%, last year. I could be wrong since I don't know who you spoke with but, they gave you last years odds, which were calculated after the draw, and for the PP side.

True, I should have rephrased. He said with the information he has available to him at the time those were the odds. He said there could be changes by the time the draw takes place but he wasn’t anticipating it. Glass half full i suppose, we’ll see.

I hope it is and stays that way. Im fine rotating species and getting a tag every couple years. Im not going down the double digit point rabbit hole. Im fone eating the occasional tag as long as I'm playing the game. I wouldn't like waiting 10-15 years for a tag and eat it.

Looking at applying for a Wyoming west region general elk tag in 2026. I have 6 points. In 2025, 6 points guaranteed this tag and 5 points gave you roughly 45% draw odds. Do we think 6 points will guarantee the tag again in 2026 or will point creep change this?

If I were a betting man, I’d say yes.
