Would you gamble on a gen 4 Tundra?

Just an observation....

The people singing the praises of the new Tundra seem to be the ones that actually own one and are actively driving one...or at least personally know someone who is.

Those disparaging them seem to be doing so off of speculation.

All of which seems to be consistent with a lot of topics around here. Drive and buy whatever makes you happy I suppose.

I learned a long time ago asking some guys about their favorite brand of truck is like asking them about their favorite politician. The other brands suck no matter how many good things they have, and whatever’s bad about their preferred brand well no it’s not it’s awesome.

I looked at the new Tundras, I think for the money, it's a very cheap looking interior, compared to other trucks, exterior styling is okay, and now that Toyota has addressed the v-6 engine issue, should be a decent but I feel overpriced truck.

One more data point for you is the new Tundras don’t have recovery hooks on the front on any trim level and only major modification can get them added.

I had a 2010 Tundra for 11.5 years so this is coming from a Toyota fan. Not hating. Just giving you info.

I didn’t use my front hooks often…three times that I can remember…but I really needed them when I used them.

They are all a gamble anymore to some extent.

Always have been, generally speaking, rigs are no less reliable than they were 20yrs ago, there are models that have good reputations in the past, and models of the same year with terrible reputations

It usually takes 5 years to have a good idea how reliable a model will be. The new tundra started off bad (for a Toyota) but now they could be very reliable, we won’t know until the whole first batch is around 150k

I recently got a 24’ taco, this newest generation is an unknown, but historically, it’s a pretty safe option, but if a Toyota has a problem, it gets a lot more attention than a ford or Chevy.

I would not consider upgrading our 21’ tundra for a gen 3, but if I didn’t have a half ton and needed a new one, I would probably take my chances on a tundra.

I have been kicked in the nuts every time I’ve got a domestic brand pickup, so I do have some bias. On the other hand, I/we have had more Toyotas than anything, from late 80’s little standard cab with a 22re to several 4Runners, tacos and a couple tundras without a single problem that wasn’t wear and tear

I bought my low miles used 2016 Tundra "just because" Toyota went to that TT V6. I wanted something that would last me the next 20 years. I've had my old Toyota for 36 years now, and my F-350 is going on 25. I wanted something that would/could replace those if/when they fail. But at this point, I think I'll do whatever I have to do to keep them running as long as I can. Having the Tundra for almost two years now has shown me just how much I hate automatic transmissions.

I’ll probably buy one in about three years. I’m not 100% on it.

The new engine debacle was not good. Two good friends have ‘22 models. One loves his and one hates his.

We have a ‘23 RAV4 and I absolutely love It. My 08 Tundra has plenty of life in it (165k), so we may drive that longer too.

I have 24 dodge Laramie 1500 for my work truck, it’s got all the bells and whistles. Great truck to ride in, pile of shit otherwise. Comparing the service I get at my local to Toyota dealer to the service I get from my local Dodge dealer is night and day. The dodge dealer has had my truck for 9 days now, didn’t look at it for 7 from the day I had my appointment and I probably won’t have it back for 5 more days waiting on parts for a warranty claim.

Toyota dealers have always had me in and out in a day, this has been the worst experience.

I’d take a Toyota with issues over an American rig every day of the week.
