My "kid ruck" workout this weekend. Took the kids for a hike down to the river, 2 miles each way, almost 2000' of elevation loss on the way in, 2000' gain on the way back. Load one 28# 2 year old in the backpack, add 2 Nalgenes of water and metric s#%ton of snacks. Pack weight around 35#ish. Let the 4 year old set the pace, and decide how far to hike. Make it to the river. 4 year old (who skipped and ran all the way down hill) develops a "stomachache" when it comes time to climb back up the hill. Fireman carry a 45# 4 year old on the front, with a 2 year old adding a "dynamic move" on my back by rocking side to side to see if she can make daddy lose his balance. Definitely felt like I had been schlepping elk quarters when I was done....
