Will Tikka come out with a 6 CM soon???

Thoughts on purchasing a 1:8 243 and using a uni-throater to lengthen the throat? Possibly take it to a smith and have them convert to long throat 243AI? I have a huge pile of 109 ELDMs I use in my 6GT.

Has anyone ever had a Tikka factory barrel reamed out? I could even to to something like a 6PRC and just steal a bolt from another gun.

Am I leaving anything on the table vs 6 creed?

I used the uni-throater with great success on a 300 WSM.
I saw a video a few years ago of a guy in New Zealand who had a 7-08 reamed out to 284 win. If you wanted more case capacity, a 6mm-284 would be easy and you can use the same bolt.

Midnight blue ceracote looks really nice.

It does but the examples I've seen don't have the same depth as the original bluing on the rifle. I don't think you can replicate it, at least I haven't found it yet. Appreciate the insight. I think I'm just going to barrel it with a proof barrel for a new/old school vibe.

A certain member on this forum has alluded to a 1:8 6CM coming, but is not able to share specifics like release date etc... probably wishful thinking but I'd keep a close eye on events like SHOT show 2026. Thats what I'm hoping for anyway!

I’m hoping it’s a T3X stainless lite 1:8” twist 18” barreled threaded model… but I doubt it.

Since suppressors are prohibited up here I wouldn’t mind a 24” left hand Tikka 6 creed. I probably will die of old age before Tikka makes a Lefthand version.

Why do you say that?

Because you get out of the Rokslide bubble, 6mm Creedmoor isn’t very popular. It’s a niche cartridge with PRS and ballistic chart, Internet forum people. They already have a 1:8 twist 243. It’s just not going to be a big seller and honestly, some fudd will order one by mistake, chamber a 6.5 CM and try to shoot it.

Maybe a dumb question but why would a 6cm be faster than a 243? Especially enough faster to think a chopped 6cm would equal a longer barreled 243. Not trying to argue and I have 6cm's I just can't wrap my head around the 6cm being enough faster to mention.

With equal weight bullets, the 243 will be a little faster. The advantage with the Creedmoor is it’s designed to work with long heavy bullets and it’s easy to find factory ammo above 100 grains with high BCs.

Thank you I understand the difference and the advantages of the CM I was just a little confused and asking why it was being suggested the CM is faster. Especially enough faster that a shorter barreled CM would still get the same velocity as a longer barreled 243. Apples to apples I just don't see it.

Edit to say never mind I was on page 2 when I was seeing that. Disregard.

Where did you see this claim?

It was earlier in the thread. I thought I clicked the most recent page but I obviously missed. I thought I had lost my mind but went back and realized it was old posts. Page 1 and I thought I was current. My apologies.

That brings up an interesting scenario: Are there any scenarios where one of the various shorter 6/6.5s would chamber in a smaller bore diameter cartridge?

I'd think a 6.5cm neck diameter would stop it from chambering in a .243 or 6cm, but it might be iffy as to whether it could be stuffed into, say, a 6mmRemingtonAI.

I've only seen two mischambering in my life - a 16 gauge shell in a 12 gauge and a 25-06 in a 30-06. Neither of those produced any serious drama (though both fired).

ETA: I stopped buying Nosler bullets when they got so expensive (and Nosler went to 50-count boxes of ballistic tips) but I'll give them credit that color-coding Ballistic Tip bullets by caliber was a good idea. Maybe I should keep shooting ELDMs with red tips in the 6.5cm and when/if I buy a 6mmSomething, only use Sierra TMKs in it, with the green tips, so the kids have a teaching aid for which ammo goes in which gun.
