Why does it always seem like there is a conspiracy against the 7mm-08?

So my wife shoots the 7mm-08 and loves it. I don't like how expensive it is. Also the Winchester ammo for it is trash I've had way too many fail to fires with clear hits on them.

As a “middle millennial”, can I still use the 7-08? Really concerned because I already have the 9 twist .284 barrel so...
I could give it a sweet nickname, or maybe an 7-08 ackley... that’d probably get it back to the man bun realm of calibers.

It's still pretty common in rural areas around here. Lots of guys still hunting with the same rifle they got when they were teens. I still see plenty of .257 Roberts, 25-06's and of course '06's at the range. Like going back in time some days, that is until those same guys pull out their AR's and start blasting. LOL

Nothing wrong with that. 165's in a .308 are great medicine too. And of course, there is so little difference between the .270 and 7mm-08 that it's hardly worth talking about, that is until you start searching for a compact, lightweight option.

Mine shoots every box of Federal blue box (150 speer hotcors I believe) just about 1.1 MOA. It’s a Tikka T3 wearing a Leupold VX-3i 2.5-8X with an upgraded Limbsaver and metal bolt shroud.

I have shot many 5 shots groups of less than 1 MOA with handloaded 120 NBTs but yesterday I was not doing any better than 1.6” in any group tested.

I’ve never killed an animal bigger than a raccoon with anything other than a muzzleloader, season 3 in the woods with this Tikka and starting to look like odds are slim again. I plan to use the 120 BT handloads for antelope and deer, and see what I get this spring with 140 ABs and Partitions to choose an elk load.

I've used a 7mm08 for everything you can buy a tag for minus goat and sheep. It's my 2nd favorite round. At "average Joe" hunting ranges it hits harder than most short action calibers and has better BC bullets than a .30. Its chambered in any type of rifle you could dream up, and it's usually difficult to find a load that won't deliver decent accuracy. With a 120 Ballistic Tip it'll handle prairie dogs up to large deer. Switch to most any 140 gr bullet and it'll handle all the game in America, minus ornery Grizzlies. With a 139 Interbond or 140 Partition you can shoot rockchucks and moose in the same afternoon. There's many calibers that can do this, but not many that seem suited to all of them. The tons of 7mm bullets out there make it a hand loaders dream. You could spend a lifetime loading bullets for it and never get around to them all. It loves bonded bullets, and sends cup n cores out the barrel at the speed they were meant to be stoked. I've had Remmy's, Howa's, Bergara, Winchester, Christensen, NULA, Browning, and more. They ALL shot well with the right projectile and powder. There's a lot of calibers that can claim the "one rifle" award, but fair warning, if you use the others you'll be labeled as ancient.....or a Bitch Biscuit. The choice is yours.

I bought my wife a model 7 7-08 for our 3rd anniversary since she wanted to go hunting with me that year(yes she was thrilled) I shot the heck out of it to break it in and help her get sighted in and since then have never been without one for myself. Latest is a Christensen arms Ridgeline with a mcmillan gamescout stock. Great little round with tons of bullets available and easy to reload for. Good ballistics and low recoil. As for the seemingly lack of love for it I think it is akin to the hot rod mentality, bigger faster newer more.

Sadly, I suppose you're right. Just tough to see rifles that used to be offered in 7mm-08 that are now back to only the .308/'06/.270/.243 and now 6.5 CM with the 7mm-08 nowhere to be seen.

Not Kimber7man but its a McMillan Classic Edge in brown & black speckle with their 1" red pad. I agree, it looks great - even better sitting on an elk

I love my 7mm-08! It’s my do all hunting round. I shoot 139 gr GMX.
I’ll take that over a 270 any day. But an animal is going to die with any 308,6.5 Creedmoor, 270 win, 280 rem and the good old 30’06!
