Was talking with a long time friend tonight and somehow we got to talking about his first article he sent to Eastmans' bowhunting journal. This was many years ago (his first article), but when it got published he was like a kid with a new bike. He's had a bunch published in both the hunting and bowhunting journal since then, but he was telling me how the excitement was still there when he finds out they'll be publishing what he'd sent them.

I know there's several magazines out now that ask for hunting stories, but if you look back in time, the Eastman family are the ones that started everything MANY years ago.

So who's had an article published in Eastmans' bowhunting or hunting journal?

I've had a "this is my DIY" article in ebj published. I feel honored to have my story published in the original western trophy magazine.

I hope it's the first of many...

7 articles in eastmans (deer, elk, lopers) and going on second mrs for cali. A few others in other mags too with same kills. I had and have the same reaction as your friends. First time though was best as it was on my first and biggest bull elk ive killed so far a 332" in MT. im hoping to add to the bull elk kills this year and submit a story to extreme elk. Cmon draws be good to me!

I've only submitted two but they both got in.

My hunting partner submitted an article about our AK moose hunt too, but no go on that one.

I still subscribe because I love reading other hunters' stories, but Rokslide is the place for talking gear!

I've been in it for the successful hunters page towards the back with my first ever archery kill 2 years ago. I was so pumped heck even thinking about it makes me pumped.maybe someday I'll have a story in there I find it being an enjoyable read but what BB said this place is the one stop shop for everything gear

I've read one of your articles Bitterroot. It was a pretty nice Montana muley (rifle hunt) if I remember correctly. I hope I can be fortunate enough to make the pages of the bowhunting journal. I love reading all the hunters stories.

Aron wasn't your archery deer in Western Hunter not too long ago. It would be cool to read about you bear hunt.

I haven't been published in the mag, but working for them has been fun.

I am putting together a blog series that will help hunters put together everything needed to get published. It is all about quality pictures!

I had an article published in EHJ a few years ago about my dad and my WY antelope hunt. I was extremely surprised to see it because it had been over a year since I submitted it.

Nope, that was Eastmans'.

Yes. Eastman's Bowhunting Journal. I typicall will save my articles now for The Professional Bowhunters Society magazine...no pay but lots of satisfaction sharing.

I made EBJ 56 for a mule deer a few years back. I too was pretty pumped to read my own story in Eastmans. I love reading all the stories in both mags from Eastmans and give them credit for the western hunting publication industry, that several others are following.

What sreekers says is right on about the quality pictures, I experienced it first hand. I had an epic Mtn goat hunt 5 years ago and was encouraged by others to submit it to Eastmans as it was a great story. I did so, along with some pictures that were not high quality. What happened next was an email conversation with the editor where he was trying to get different (better) pictures that he could publish with the story. I had no better pictures, thus no publication of my story. That inspired me to get better with my camera and get better images. Whether or not I ever try to get published again is irrelevant, the lesson was learned and I enjoy better pics for myself because of it.

I submitted a story to Eastman's a year ago to 2 separate email addresses and never heard anything back. I know they get a lot of submissions, but it was a little frustrating not to hear anything at all. I waited 6 months and then submitted to WH and got it published this last Christmas. I was happy getting into either of them, absolutely like a new bike. My father in law might have been more excited, he's a dentist and took a copy to his office, then called WH and got 5 more. :)

Just so there's no confusion, not bashing EHJ at all, totally understand the volume they receive. They're the pioneers in that arena.

I've had a few stories in Eastman Bowhunting Journal a few years back. Haven't submitted anything ever since.

None for me, but my dad has been in the Trophy Pictures in the back with a Mule Deer and my nephew is going to be in the back coming up with a mule deer and elk.....I wish I woulda been able to tag along on my nephews hunts because I would have loved to write a story to try to get published, the lesson learned there? Don't have a baby in the fall!!!!

I made EBJ after being successful on my first DIY Elk hunt. Not an article, just a short blurb and pic. My wife had the page matted and framed and it hangs underneath that dink bull Euro Mount. I sure am proud of it.
