Good question. I would say it's more than one:)

Here is a simple system I just thought up:

1-4= you just got lucky
5-9=maybe you’re on to something
10-14= you’re still not impressing any chicks with those stats.
15-19=you were dropped on your head as a child
20-24=you might have an IQ less than 80

I'm 3 for 3 with a bow! A 6x6, a 5x6 and a 5x5 in that order. I'm a little worried that they're getting smaller every year. I'll consider myself a slayer until I eat that first tag.

Sr. Dinkerino,

I think you need to master the subtlety of sarcasm that Rokslide demands. We can't have self deprecating humor here because we are EXTREME!! (the second ! is for emPHAsis) Besides I read at a second grade level on my Obamaphone and I don't understand your references...I'm about to get butthurt here in a hurry.

Is that the welcome you are used to? Just trying to make ya comfortable...;)

I am sitting on unlucky 13. All DIY archery bulls, never been elk hunting with a rifle. Was on a 8 year lucky streak up until 2 years ago. Killed 6 P&Y 6 points in a row and ended up killing my biggest bull to date (#13). Worst thing I ever did killing that bull. Now I can't buy a break in he elk woods, gotten close quite a few times but things just didn't work out. This IS the year that I will turn my bad luck around.

This is an interesting thread, and just for fun I am pretty sure. I was thinking about how many elk it takes to become a "slayer." Who knows I guess. I don't consider myself a slayer. I have killed a few bulls (Were we supposed to count cows? Oh well ;) ), but there are some old timers out there that have just stacked them up like cord wood over the years.

My progression as an elk hunter went like many: I started out a teenager that couldn't find my ass with both hands in the elk woods. Then I got lucky and stumbled into a kill following advice of experienced elk hunters like my uncle, then I got to a string of kills every year where I felt like I could kill a bull every season, then I progressed to looking for a bull that met my liking, and I wasn't getting kills every year any more.

I might not be an elk slayer, but I sure like hunting them!

I hope one day to be one of those old timers with a barn full of racks.
