The loss of taste and smell is a scary one. It's not like other colds or a sinus infection where it's caused from inflammation, or congestion, in the sinuses. It's caused from actual brain damage and loss of grey matter in the front part of the brain.
After losing taste and smell in December, it's been hit and miss ever since. It's never been 100% "off", no real rhyme or reason as to what I can taste and smell or when. It comes and goes very quickly. For the past week though I had 100% taste and smell back with a vengeance for the first time since it went away in December, then yesterday at lunch suddenly most of it was gone again. Can't even smell vinegar.......just nothing there.

I do know that moisture on the olfactory nerves causes the smell to disappear. Before I get in the shower I can smell the soap and my deoderant. After the shower I can smell neither for some period of time, and it does that every time. Bottom line is that it comes and goes so quickly that one bite I can taste and the next bite it's gone. This is one bizarre virus.

Good story in science today...

Interesting stuff and definitely warrants further study.

“The differences are huge,” says Thålin, although she cautions that the numbers for infections and other events analyzed for the comparisons were “small.” For instance, the higher hospitalization rate in the 32,000-person analysis was based on just eight hospitalizations in a vaccinated group and one in a previously infected group. And the 13-fold increased risk of infection in the same analysis was based on just 238 infections in the vaccinated population, less than 1.5% of the more than 16,000 people, versus 19 reinfections among a similar number of people who once had SARS-CoV-2."

"In another analysis, the researchers compared more than 14,000 people who had a confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection and were still unvaccinated with an equivalent number of previously infected people who subsequently received one dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. (In Israel, it’s recommended that people who have been previously infected get just one dose.) The team found that the unvaccinated group was twice as likely to be reinfected as the singly vaccinated."

Two paragraphs that stood out to me from there. The hospitalization rate based off of only 9 total cases is very low for either group and needs more data to confirm, and the infection risk while still low, does have more numbers to back it up.

Further, it seems like a previous infection and at least one shot confers the greatest immunity to the virus on people.

Did a quick search and can’t confirm all of this. A few articles say that the virus may gain entry to the CNS through the olfactory nerves and supporting cells. ACE2 is certainly present in the brain, so it’s plausible.

Take your vitamin d, everyone. And get some sun.
Heres some stuff to get started on reading if anyone wants to look into this more. There's quite a bit of info on this out there and more continues to come out on it as time passes.

Natural immunity is likely very good against reinfection, but the only problem is that it may come at a high cost in the future even with very mild infections. Unfortunately only time will tell and by then it may be too late.

Make whatever decision you guys feel is right for yourself and family, and good luck.

That is crazy. Your body might still be trying to clear the virus all the way even though you test negative and aren't contagious anymore. It's lingering around at very low levels in your body and increases and decreases as time passes. Look into it.

The Pfizer is two doses. The Israeli protocol is one dose for post Covid infection. Did that have any influence on the results? They would have to also include two dose, post Covid infections to have a true conclusion.

One of the reasons retrospective studies are at the bottom of the evidence totem pole. The parameters aren't set going in and it's nearly impossible to account for all of them coming out.

oof. Good grief. I’ll talk to my wife on this, MRI is her thing.

I’ll add to this that the number of post-covid heart scans among young people she’s done is troubling. She was really confused as to why so many younger people were coming in for cardiac MRIs as compared to a few years ago - until the covid link was made. Crazy stuff.

Long and boring read, but interesting. Are we making the future of the disease worse with the "leaky" vaccine?

I'd point out that the paper referenced by the last source is (1) in pre-print and (2) both study groups fit the well defined risk case for severe disease:

Yes. Probably. Possibly. It has absolutely happened with marek's disease in poultry. But that is a disease for which hundreds of millions of animals are vaccinated every year, and for the last couple decades with similar recombinant technology to the Janssen vaccine. So while the progression in humans ought to be slower we have seen it happen in other systems, and like the bloodhound gang said, you and me aint nothing but mammals.

This country is being run by fools.
My belief here on this one.. is that somehow certain fools are being selected to become the "Front Man" to take the heat for the bad decisions the people behind the scenes pulling strings are attempting to orchestrate.

Kinda seems to make sense to me when you think about how quickly they mobilized to de facto oust Trump. And yes.. there are tons of stupid mofos all over the place... but.. I still don't think there were enough of them to cause "Bye-Then!" to be legally elected.

You'll remember that Trump did thing such as pass legislation to create more transparency for our healthcare. Showing what is billed to our insurance co's and what their agreed upon amount is.. and what they paid, etc.

Overall I'm thinking they didn't like that one very much. Also... if the idea it to Make America Great Again... I'm thinking such a strategy wouldn't involve us continuing to be the pocketbook for the rest of the worlds police'ing needs. And I have to imagine there are a number of big money player where that pissed them off. Also if Trump wouldn't want to continue us to be involved in a bunch of stupid wars that we should have never gotten into in the first place... THAT would throw a wrench into what has become the de facto personal savings bank / financing dept of the military-industrial complex.... whereby we give buncha dollars to other countries in "foreign aid", only to have them turn around and place orders for military gear from our companies over here.

It's soo blatant it's not even funny. PragerU even put up a vid about it... trying to support the idea of continuing to send money to Israel for example.. and I cannot believe somebody didn't review the video they made and go "Hey guys.. this actually kinda exposes this racket/scheme we've got going on.. do ya think we should be releasing this??"

Having trouble finding that one right now in order to post the link in here.

I understand your desire to possibly elect not to discuss the RELATED political components of the emergence of this annoying pathogen has caused and how it has granted some the power to exploit us. We've certainly all heard it ad nauseum.

But to state it has "nothing" to do with the topic of this thread... well... if it had nothing to do with it... then people wouldn't be bringing it up now, right?

EDIT: Long story shorter, I paid my dues... dearly... in terms of this particular pathogen. So... if I have an opinion about it and all it's off-shoot effects... I do believe I've very much earned the right to express them by having gone thru it. Nonetheless... I tip my hat to you, and will drop it.
