This year I drew a once in a lifetime rifle elk tag as a non-resident in my first year putting in (I did take a point last year). Since the draw, I have watched every pack dump, gear review and spoken to numerous experienced backpack hunters and one thing has stands out to me. Very few of them have mentioned KUIU as their go-to clothing and gear brand of choice for backpack hunting. Most have mentioned Sitka, Archteryx, First Lite, etc. Why is that? I own mostly Sitka Gear clothing in their Whitetail line so I’m looking to get a bunch of clothing more suited for backpack/spike camp Western hunting...

It has nothing to do with the quality of their clothing.
Kuiu the company sucks.
A few reasons, but there are more...
All for taking general tags away from you and making them highest bidder gets them.
Also not a whole lot of talk about their public land contributions.
They are too chicken shit to throw a pack off a cliff.
And the camo pattern looks like man splatter.

But it's your money a d you get to spend it how you want, no one else's business. If you buy it though, just know you look like man splatter.

Haha. I don’t own a single piece of their stuff. Like I said most of my hunting clothing is Sitka Gear in their Whitetail line. I get Sitka at a pretty good discount thru Leo so I’m gonna go that route. I was just asking because I was curious...

I have two long sleeve merino shirts and they’re good and true to size for me, but I have a pair of tiburon pants that are like skinny jeans and a pair of alpine pants in the same size that are stupidly big. Don’t even ask about the first one man tent they sold.

I have been a Sitka guy since 2008. But I am also from California so a few years after Kuiu started I bought a set up to try. Here is the short answer, if you hunt hard and any where other than the sand flats buy Sitka. I wore my Kuiu on 3 turkey hunts and 2 5 day mule deer trips. My shirts and pants were falling apart. I've had multiple buddies and my brother that had the same issues and good luck with their customer service. None of the clothing falling apart at the seams or the holes were replaced by Kuiu. But I do know guys that have had nothing but good luck with Kuiu. I still have Sitka stuff going strong since 2008.

Pretty sure people hate Kuiu because Jason's got a shitpile of $$$, goes on crazy expensive hunts to promote his products, and hobnobs with celebrities.

Oh and Kuiu doesn't sponsor everyone on the internet like other brands. You actually have to pay for it if you want to use it.

Personally, I'll keep my Kuiu gear over Sitka any day.

I was unware I was supposed to hate KUIU. As such I have a a lot of their gear, attack pants, guide jackets, gloves, merino shirts, and gaiters.

I have beaten the crap out of my gear for the last 3 years and it is all going strong. I have hunted in just the attack pants, merino shirt, and guide jacket in some very cold, snowy, and windy conditions, temps down to -10F and snow up to your knee. I was always very comfortable and have not had one issue with my gear. I have bought many pieces over 3 years and they all seem very well made. I whole heartily recommend them to anyone coming out to my neck of the woods to hunt.

I would recommend tuning out the "this company is horrible" rhetoric as the people who throw that out are most likely blissfully shopping at Walmart, Amazon, and use a internet company all of which are far more horrible then KUIU could ever aspire to be.

So as predictable as this thread will become, it will be locked. If people could learn to provide feedback based on their personal use, it would be great. But since it was only the first response that started the nonsense, it is locked.

If the OP wants to message or call me, that will be fine.
