Getting my clothing gear together for my first western hunt. I plan to take a yearly to every other year hunt in Central Idaho. Fall bear, Elk, and Mule Deer will be the primary targets. Mostly September and early October hunts. I’ve compared the outfitters recommendations with what I plan to buy but if there are any recommendations or substations to consider, I appreciate it.

Base layer Bottoms – 2x Sitka Core Light, Mid and Heavyweight

I own these. I really like them, but wish they weren’t a 34 inseam. I am going Kuiu pants because they offer “short” inseam. I might leave the heavyweight at home and keep those for duck hunting and guide late season preserve upland.

Base layer top – multiple First Lite Yuma long sleeve crew and hoodie.

Wool on bare skin, outside of feet, doesn’t work for me.

Sitka Core Merino 220 ¾ zip, 330 ¾ zip, and 330 hoodie.

Over the Yuma crew/long sleeve

Pants - Kuiu Assault, Talus Hybrid, and pro brush pant

These are available in “short” or 31 inch inseam. I own the assault, plan to get the pro brush pant for this year upland season and the Talus would work for western and my spring turkey season.

Jacket – Kuiu Pro Guide

Looking into down insulation pants and jacket. I have an old Core 4 E down jacket that could work, but won’t go over the Kuiu Jacket. Pants from any brand, depending on sale.s.

Rain gear, Carhart that I use for fishing. It’s worked well for that.

Gaiters - First Lite Brambler

Boots Thorogood 1957 Series Flyway Waterproof 8″ Boots

I use these for upland. I will have to pair. I put hundreds of miles on these boots and they have done me well. They are not “mountain” boots but I’m for flatlands and don’t know why these would not work.

I own wool socks, ball caps, stocking caps, gloves of all kinds.

Thank you,
