Whats your Black Bear Caliber?

I've killed two black bears in Wyoming. Both were shot with my Tikka 270 WSM and 140 accubond handloads.

If I ever go bear hunting again, I'd like to make it fun and use a lever gun in 30-30 or 45-70.

I've shot one with a 6mm Remington and 1 with a 270. I've seen em shot with everything from a 22 hornet all the way up to a 45-70. They're not overly hard to kill

6.5CM or .308 so far on all of mine

I've carried .243, .25-06 as well on bear hunts, just haven't found a good bear with them in hand yet

Likely 243 and 7 mag all Spring this year

My two bears, W WA and SE AK, were with my 30-06. ~80 & 170yds Hornady SST & Barnes TTSX. Neither went more than 5-10 ft.

Shot placement matters, a 3 legged bear can go quite a ways….

My only bear was with my bow; Opening day of blacktail season. I recently inherited my grandfather's Model 81 in 35 Rem., so I intend to take that out, but between the cartridge and open sights, it'll be a short range proposition. I believe he did all his black bear hunting in PA.

I've used a recurve, compound, win 94 30-30, 308, 7mag, 280ai, 338rcm. Plan on using a 22-250ackley or 6.5 creed this year. I think the fastest death was the 280ai but they all worked just fine.

Doesn’t take anything special unless you are shooting long range. Killed a few with a bow, 223, 300 blackout, 7mm-08, 300 saum, muzzleloader. I like my 7mm-08 right now and would take that or something similar if I was going on a rifle bear hunt.

I have enough points for a tag this year, not sure if I will have time or not this fall. If I do I will most likely use my 6.5CM or even consider a new 223 I am putting together. Had it been last year I would have most likely used my 270 that I have used on deer for years.

I bought a 338wm for bear years ago when I was about 20 thinking that you must need a big bullet. Have never had a real world use for that gun yet.
