Just wondering if anyone on here has experience hunting the bighorn mountains for black bear. I have some questions for you! Thanks everyone!

What resources do you use to find the snow line from afar? I'm headed out in southern Wyoming with a friend end of May but I'm worried it might be a little late.We go next week. Snow lines still feel pretty low. So we are watching back up areas. We will be in south central Wyo. Goodluck.
OnX’s “recent imagery” filter can be used. There are also plenty of weather stations up there that can give you that information if you know the name of a given peak. What resources do you use to find the snow line from afar? Thank you, I'm aware of the sow mortality limit and know to call that hotline every day. Am I correct in my understanding that late May, early June the rut should be kicking in?Snotels and weather stations.
Wyoming has a female mortality closure. If the number of sows is met the season gets closed. This is random but pay attention the bear hotline. If the area is closed see if there are still open areas near. If not Idaho. I’ve hunted bear in the unit I’ll be in Memorial Day weekend. Some of the forest roads were still not drivable in a wheeled vehicle.
Wow, thank you! What a great resource. I used to use a NOAA website but it's no longer available(or at least it changed and I can't find it anymore)Want to see where the snow is at?

Yes. In that window you should see some rut action.Thank you, I'm aware of the sow mortality limit and know to call that hotline every day. Am I correct in my understanding that late May, early June the rut should be kicking in?

On this note, be prepared with a plan B in another unit should the one you're hunting close prematurely.Thank you, I'm aware of the sow mortality limit and know to call that hotline every day.
This NOAA website allows you to check past years and current snow depths:What resources do you use to find the snow line from afar? I'm headed out in southern Wyoming with a friend end of May but I'm worried it might be a little late.

Thank you! I will have to check into that some more. Fires are a blessing and a curse, I suppose. There is plenty of public for you to access. Private too if you know people. Terrain is mostly break like country. Big draws with water in the bottom. Before fires it would be green pine in one side and sage or aspens. But fires have changed the landscape significantly.
(resident)Yes, I have had seasons where I bought a tag and the mortality capped and closed the season in two weeks.Snotels and weather stations.
