Whats your Black Bear Caliber?

I have yet to kill one spot and stalk, but I plan to take my 6.5 PRC, shooting 140 grain bergers

Thanks for the affirmation. Will be first hunt for black bear...time to study up on field judgin!
Good luck, it's such a fun hunt and you'll have a blast. There's a good thread somewhere on here talking about shot placement. Bears die fast when you double lung them but if you screw up they are tough customers that can take a lot of punishment.

I've shot two with a 7MM rem mag but was only able to recover one of them. Personally I'm thinking of switching to a 300 PRC or 300 WSM for my big game hunting.

Have killed one with a 300 Win Mag (180 grain trophy copper), buddy borrowed that rifle and shot one with a 180 grain Accubond. Last year I got one with an AR10 in 308 (165 grain tipped core lokt).

Plan on using the AR10 again this year, but with 178 grain ELDX.
