What’s the fastest you’ve driven?

120 in a 2000 Honda accord going over a long bridge. I thought that was pretty fast but some of you have gone WAY faster.

Once I saw a guy get blown to pieces going stupid fast (probably over 120) on a bike down a rural two lane road. He was flying and tried to go around a sedan and hit a pickup head on. A lady pulled up about 5 minutes afterwards and said that the guy flew past her and she told her husband, “He’s going to kill himself”. She was right.

I think most think ‘driving’ is on the ground / roadway.

Not sure if I’ve heard anyone say ‘I drove an aircraft’ ?

It’s pretty common to refer to yourself as an “[insert aircraft type here] driver” in a lot of tac-air communities.

In all cases I got more scared than the car/4-wheeler was and I let off.

The Chrysler felt like she was just floating down the canal.

Flash back! I was about a mile from home on a country road, dusk, came over a little hill doing about 60mph, three ducks sitting in the middle of my lane, first went left, second right, third missed the front brake lever by a pube, hit my knuckles, bicept/shoulder and the side of my helmet. Feather jammed in the plastic knuckle vents on my alpinestar gloves, shoulder vent on my suit and vent/visor hinge mechanism. If he hit the front brake lever square on, most likely would have been catapulted me into the pavement.

This reminded me of the JD 8820 combines we had. They would go into a neutral of sorts on a down hill once they were up around 20mphOr so. You could pull the hydrostat lever back and big green just kept rolling and accelerating. Maybe came close to 35 a couple times with no ability to really slow down. Those machines don’t have much of a brake. With the steer tires on the back you didn’t want to sneeze at that moment.

A guy in town had an original Shelby cobra and my buddy and I got rides. It was a rattle trap and not stable and I was scared teenager, when he called 140 I tapped him no more…

My boss gave my a ride in his bmw m5, 140 felt fun! I got to drive it but kept it under a hundred.

Just finished new pistons, cam, valves etc rebuilding a 351 Cleveland in my cougar convertible. On my maiden drive I hit 125 in 2 gear of my 3 speed automatic (no way was going into third until I changed rear end), but country road late at night with deer everywhere I backed off. Oh, had a gal in the car and she seemed ready…

Given the depth of posts in this thread, it appears spitting in the devil’s eye was a favorite pastime for others in their youth as well.

These days I mainly putt around in diesel trucks to keep my right foot in check.

Most of my serious speeding was before spending six years as an EMT on a volunteer FD. Saw quite a bit of what happens to human bodies when you’re going really fast and then suddenly you’re not. Sobering to say the least. Nowadays I use cruise control to tool around at 9mph over the posted limit. Haven’t had a ticket in years.

85 in my f250 trying to pass idiots on the seward highway in the passing lanes. I dont know what its like down in tje 48, but people love to drive 50 mph in a 60 mph zone, until you hit a passing lane, then it's off to the races....just to slow back down when it goes back to a single lane. Drives me fricken nuts.

I dont drive fast haha.

Over to my girlfriend’s apartment (now wife) when she said her roommates were gone for the weekend…. Couldn’t tell you the exact speed but was indeed the fastest I’ve ever driven

Do you guys think if it goes wrong at such high speed that the human mind can proceed the thought of “ this is bad, I’m gonna die !?”

Maybe. Having crashed at 50 ish, I had the thought, this is going to hurt while in the air before landing. I have also crashed at 70 and just remember hitting the ground and then being 100 yards down the track. Also have been sliding on pavement and gone, this is getting hot, better move a little. So maybe yes, maybe not.
