New Truck - Noticed Cosmetic Damage - Thoughts?

Possibly, what if a rental was given.

I own a small business on the side, and had had a couple. Reasonableness is always paramount. If they accidentally damaged the truck and purposefully tried to deceive you and many people were in the know, absolutely, take it as far you can out of principal. But that’s hard to prove. No one’s perfect, no business is trouble free. As long as it gets fixed on the dealership dime. That’s all that matters. Digging a knife in deeper doesn’t do anything but self gratification. Navigating life trying to get over on people who “may” have gotten over on you is an uncomfortable shoe to wear

Also, the mere fact the dealership wa so quick to work w him made me think two things, they either knew they got caught and wanna make it right, or they had no clue and they truly care about their customers.

The dealership had every right to say, yiy signed for it and drove it away. You can’t prove we did it, you could have just as easily damaged it yourself and put cover up paint on it and then brought it back, regardless, you signed for it, it’s yours.

The fact they are willing to work w the guy is huge. I’d take that by itself in a heart beat.

So they gave me a loaner for a week while they painted it. I went and picked it up and the paint job was not good. They just filled in the scratches and cleared them, and they were just as obvious as before, just smooth. I nicely explained it wasn’t good enough. So I kept the loaner for another week while they did a more comprehensive paint job.

I went to pick it up after the final fix and it turned out perfect. I took a friend who knows paint with me. I had them pull the truck inside under light and also outside in the sun so we could see all angles and light conditions. I couldn’t find any reason to complain again.

So in the end they stood by their sale and their work. They told me they wanted me 100% happy before I signed off on it. It all worked out in the end.

Perfect man. You handled that well. Probably of no surprise to you. You were fair in giving them an opportunity to fix their issue, and when they tried to short cut it, you still had the wherewithal to say na, no thanks and they fixed it. I agree, it didn’t have to happen to begin with, but allowing people to right their wrongs is a great trait to have!
