Have: Ruger #1B in a 30-06 and a 6mm Remington. Love those #1's. They are just a classy well made rifle that really shoot.

Wish For: Winchester Model 70 Supergrade in 6mm Remington. It is a crying shame Winchester never chambered the 6mm Remington in their Model 70.

Winchester Model 70 in .280 Remington. Someday I hope to have one of these darn things. Too bad they still don't chamber for that round. It's a good one!!

Sako Model 85 in 25-06.

Any of those three on my list would be great.

Wish for: A Winchester Model 70 "Westerner" in 264 Win Mag and a matching "Alaskan" in 338 Win Mag. That combo would handle anything I would ever want to hunt in the US

A Ruger No 1 in 22-250

What is the difference in a westerner and a typical .264 mod 70? Barrel length?

Mine would be a kifaru rambling rifle in any 6.5.

I have a lot of dreams ! The most current desires are a 7mm wsm in a long action to shoot 180gr Berger vlds and a 6.5 saum to push 140gr berger vlds. I have a short action Winchester m70 ss classic that will become the 6.5 saum at some point and I'll probably find a long action Winchester m70 ss to build the 7mm wsm on. I was and may still go with a 7mm-300 wsm for the long action but the 7mm wsm is back in the front position again now. I just sold a TC encore and I already want another. This time with a 45 cal 20 twist mgm barrel to shoot long 45 cal bullets.
Why the m70 Winchesters ? I like them. I know I would be better off with some large shank ss savage actions but my heart wants what it wants.

It defies logic since I already have a Kimber Montana 280AI but I will admit I covet the forbes stainless 280 and would have it cut to the SAAMI AI chamber. I can't justify the cost at all but the kids are growing fast and I may "need" a second light rifle as they grow past the youth stock savage... Be nice to be able to share ammo....(that's how the seed gets planted $$$)

A few that I would love to own, but have no practical plans for...

Dakota Arms Model 76 Alpine .260 Rem

R.J. Renner Faeton with both 32 and 20 bore barrels

I have wants for the historic cool factor like a Henry lever gun. But I sometimes we don't know what we want until we put our hands on one. I am a ELR shooter. I have the passion bad. I was lucky enough to shoot the Defensive Edge LRKM prototype when Shawn visited my home with one for me to test drive. The first target we engaged was a rock at 2550 yards. The feel of this rifle and the success I witnessed led me to the order of my own. Performance can be as much importance as well as historic beauty or the love for a rifle like Winchesters, which I also have a passion for. Anyway it lead to my "Dream Rifle" The LRKM From Defensive Edge in a caliber I inspired Shawn to design. The .338 Terminator +P that sends a 300 Gr Berger at 3200 fps. The beauty of this rifle is it has a 32" barrel and a 4" slab brake. Yet it is only 43 3/4" long. Fits in my back pack scabbard well and one can shoot it off hand from the neutral weight bias.

Here it is

And here it is in action with a friend shooting it on a very hard shot. Where a precise neck shot was all we had.

Enjoy,
Jeff

I inherited one from my mom. I want to take it on a few dream hunts, mule deer and antelope. Mom whacked a lot of mule deer with it in the 60's and early 70's.

Thinking about this subject - dream rifle - I would love to have an original Sharps in 45/70.

The Westerner and the Alaskan were the names of the rifles when introduced in 1959, so it would be cool to have the original models.

You can still buy a new 264 in a model 70 sporter or featherweight. The sporter has the 26 pipe though

Gotchya. I have a .264 thats a 1965 mod 70. Inherited it from my grandfather. It underwent a rebuild before last season. I had a thread on it somewhere around here. Here is a decent pic of it on a lope hunt with my father along for the ride.

I have a couple of guns that will work for long range now I just need some glass to top them with. First gun I bought by myself is win mod 70 xtr chambered in 270 wby mag and win mod 70 feather weight chambered in 300 win mag.

Broz, I love that rifle system for sure! Dream rifle material.
I wish I had a lightweight Ti rifle for my upcoming Dall hunt. That's on my dream wish list at the moment.

Cool thread! I have been wishing for a Dakota 97 stainless in either 300 win mag or 30-06. Or a semi custom Winchester 70 with a brown precision stock that has the rhino hide coating on it, if he still does that. I might even try to split the difference on cartridges & use a 30-06 ackley improved.

Sweet! The 264 is just about a perfect antelope and open country mule deer rifle. My uncle has Remington 700 in 264 and took a nice antelope buck at 375 yards with it this year. Bang. Flop.

What stock did you put on yours?

I went with the bell and carlson.

My Kimber Montana in .308 more than matches my skill level at the moment. With the barrel cut to 20" and a Leupold 4x it all but disappears while carrying and shooting. I could say similar things about my Citori 725 feather, though I'm more inclined to baby the gorgeous finish work

My dream gun is a combination of the two, for mixed bag alpine grouse and mulie hunts. 12 gauge/.308 combo gun with 22" barrels, QD scope system, double bead, stainless, fiberglass furniture, double triggers, and less than 6 pound bare. To the best of my knowledge it does not exist. Blaser is close, but the fancy finish is less than ideal for a gun which would spend a lot of nights leaned up against a tree during bivouacs.
