Women's Rifle or Youth Model?

Just throwing this out there…what you “like” might not be what’s most effective or beneficial. There’s a reason the rokstok is gaining so much traction, it’s not because everyone likes it. It’s because it is designed to manage recoil, return your sight picture to the point of aim quicker to be back on target with an animal, and be effective at setting up in a variety of positions. I don’t necessarily “like” all the things I use in the field, but those things work better than what I do like and I value function over what’s pleasing. If a Rokstok isn’t an option, the next best thing off the shelf is a tikka with a vertical hand guard. And with the calibers, get something she isn’t afraid to shoot because of the recoil and will practice more often with. I shoot far more now than I ever did because I enjoy it and my shoulder doesn’t hurt after 10 rounds now that I switched from a 7.5# 30-06 shooting 165s to a lighter recoil smaller caliber.

I picked up a browning x-bolt micro midas for my kids in 6.5 CM. I like the rifle so much that I started using it too.

Hello everyone! My husband has been getting me into hunting the last few years. I've been using his old Winchester 70 30-06 for elk and deer hunting in Colorado. I have to use a rest or I feel like I'm going to tip over nose first. It's time I get my own rifle! We've been debating a youth rifle with a cheek raise or a women's specific model (Savage Lady Hunter 7mm-08 or Weatherby Camilla). I'd appreciate some input from the more experienced folks on this forum! If it helps, I'm 5'5"/130.
You don’t need a dedicated “women” built rifle but there are some stock options out there that may make a current rifle fit better. the peak 44 bastion has a 12” lop and the swell fits smaller hands well. My daughter lovers hers and she touch taller than you.

With that said 7-08 probably a better caliber choice for you. Especially in a shorter barrel configuration.

Another option is a chassis stock or sig cross. The sig cross pretty versatile rifle

I managed to find a used Savage Lady Hunter 7mm-08 with scope for a great price. I love it! It's just the right size and weight. It's light, but I honestly don't even notice the recoil. The recoil on my husband's old 30-06 was rough and would give me a bad flinch reflex after a while. I didn't have to worry about that now!

What ammo are you shooting out of it?

How did you get a peak 44 stock with a 12” LOP?? Both stocks on the website are showing 13.25” LOP. I’m looking to get one for my daughter. Thanks!

I didn’t, I mis-typed. It’s 13” on the button, that’s with two stage B&A gator trigger shoe. Stock weighted 22oz bare.

With that said the Bastion has one of the shorter swells to trigger hold/reach out there. Works great for small hands, me not so much

Fits my daughter really well though

Ok good to know! I think that’s what I’m going to try, thanks for the info!

A friend gave ourdaughter a Weatherby Camilla and it’s about 1-1/2 inches to long weather by says they don’t have any stocks shorter. Suggestions appreciated.

My 5'0" wife LOVES her Mossberg Patriot Super Bantam Youth rifle in 6.5 Creed.
I had it cut down to 16.5", threaded for a Banish Backcountry can, and since she is cross eye dominate, added a red dot optic. Oddly, it shoots like a dream - as in I can regularly get 1.5-2 MOA 5 shot groups with the red dot (which I think is a 2 MOA dot) shooting off a bench w/bags. The damned thing is that when I gotta jump on the quad or in the truck to do anything on our uber-rural former-ranch property her rifle is the one that I grab 90% of the time. It weighs seemingly nothing, it's shorter than a yard stick by a good margin, and with the can on it the recoil is nothing.
Now I did bed the recoil lugs, hogged out the fore end where it's not rigid, added some JB Weld and carbon arrow shafts to stiffen the fore end, and worked over the trigger but that all was less than an hours' tinkering time. We have a 700-yard range in our front pasture/yard. As a party trick I can grab her rifle, and using a porch post as a rest, hit our 1/3 IPSC target at 685 yards from the rested off-hand standing position. The hold is 2 T-posts high and hold left edge to account for the 5.3 MIL hold and the constant wind on our mtn top.
I have heard very mixed reviews of current production Mossberg rifles so buyer beware but if you can find an older one it is a very good, very low budget option for ya.

Got a band saw and a sander? As she grows you can pick up an aftermarket recoil pad with spacer kit if its needed.

My wife has her own rifles like 7mm 08, 260, and she has 300 SAUM for bear.
But I bought her a Tikka T3X Roughtech superlite for our anniversary in 6.5 cm.

She absolutely loves that gun. Lightweight, short barrel and it shoots great and no recoil even without a suppressor.
Highly recommend.
