What’s going on with the Factory Hornady 7 PRC ammo?????

My 7prc 22” proof barrel shoots a bit better than that, 175 Precision hunter about 0.6moa@100 yards and right around 0.8moa @ 300. Speed is about 2815 fps.

anything hornady i wouldnt touch with a ten foot pole.

Yeah. I wish I had more options. That said, the aforementioned shooting session had a 1/4" group with velocities very close to those advertised. And since i've got six boxes still, I'll shoot'em. My lot numbers are all above those noted previously as post-powder-change which is by I'm wondering if the lighter 165g copper is even suffering from this.

anyone recently get some chrono numbers off some recently purchased factory 7prc hornady eldx and eldm ammo? hopefully they can start to get numbers similar to federal.

Today Federal - which was for the first time pretty erratic and 50+fps spread

That's really good, what barrel?

I also had some wide ES on some recent federal 175s. Same avg velocity as federals I bought over a year ago, but SDs and ES were much smaller a year ago.
These are both recent Federals, same lot.

seems like all factory ammo is junk now days

I find the Hornady are not nearly as close as the Barnes - Have switched to the barnes and have much tighter groups

When I was collecting chrono day for my turret my average speed was 2670 with factory eldx. Way below advertised speeds

We fired 3 different lot numbers of 7 PRC 180 grain hornady ELD-M ammunition from 22 inch Fierce barrel with silencerco suppressor. The variation was just over 100 feet per second on fifty +rounds from 2791 to 2897 feet per second. Average was around 2835 f/s overall. Well below the 2975 on the box. Multiple others that have used a chrono have found very similar numbers (within 20 f/s) including with 24 inch barrels and no suppressor.

Frustrating that Hornady real world numbers are so far off from their published data. Distances over 500 yards the require a tremendous difference on DOPE and holdover charts to produce hits. The 100 f/s variation also produced misses for us that correlated to the f/s variation and shooting over or under calculated point of impact. Certainly makes a case for handloading and utilizing chronograph routinely.

The barrel was allowed to cool routinely with a 'barrel fan' and we also cleaned the rifle to see if there were other variables manipulating our numbers (25+ rounds averaged 2835 f/s and a second group of over 20 rounds averaged 2841 f/s with nearly identical min/max measurements).
