Wouldn't have done a thing different. Primary objective was to save the dog from harm, not kill the coyote.
Im surprised everyone is saying shoot when there is houses/buildings in the background.
My only critique is you missed a training opportunity! Sounds like a very capable dog. You may have creased or cut hair that a human wouldn't see.
In the dog world it's said over and over "Trust the dog".
Would have been a great opportunity to get your dog jazzed up and excited and put the dog on the crime scene. See what would happen. How the dog would respond. And what your dog's DNA really has in it.
From the east coast....hate the east coast....never going back. But THAT is a great looking chunk of land.
Buy a $20 mouth blown predator call. Just sit down and try to blow the reeds out of it at sunrise at least once. And make sure your magazine is topped off. Will work only one time.
Your choice, shooting through a tree you even say you think your bullet deflected, also say wouldnt take that shot at a deer. Not in line with the coyote. The coyote’s backstop was two different hills.
You saw the same pic as everyone else. No houses near the line of fire.Your choice, shooting through a tree you even say you think your bullet deflected, also say wouldnt take that shot at a deer.
Houses in background populated area I personally wouldnt take that shot.
