What what temp range do y’all bring a wood stove for camp?

Kind of a long story:

I have a small Davis tent wood stove that I bought a couple years ago and the Springbar isn’t exactly made for it (they make it for the Winnerwell). So I had to purchase some additional piping and and flash kit to convert from the intended 4” pipe with sidewall penetration to a 5” straight pipe. Then got busy with work and kids and failed to do the prep work to make the conversion until it was too close to the trip to make modifications. Also thought the weather was going to be warmer this year and it turned out to be pretty cold at 10k feet.
I see. Something to consider in your use is a diesel heater rather than a mr buddy. I use mine in a kodiak Flex bow(same as a springbar) and it works great for warming up the tent and drying things out if im feeling lazy and not wanting to deal with wood.

The diesel heater blows hot air and dries my gear in about an hour or less if its aimed right at it. Since you were packing big solar panels i imagine you had a decent battery with you that you could easily run the diesel heater off of and just bring a 5 gallon can of fuel.

Just my unsolicited .02. some good discussion on it below. Last two pages go over a reasonably priced unit that works up to 15K feet

If I am camping with a floorless shelter my titanium stove is going. (Seek large stove with a Cimarron, mountain shelter LT or vertix 7.5). It has to be mid 50's or lower for high temperature to use floorless because of venomous snakes thou.

Thanks good to know, I’ll take a look at that thread. The two solar panels were powering the Jackery 1000v2. Would highly recommend.

What part of the country or what state is that in?

I haven’t seen a snake out west even in September. But my September trip was fairly cool.
I’m sure they are there, just haven’t had that issue yet.

I run my hot tent/stove when temps get into the 20s. For the weight you’re gaining by bringing a stove I think it’s worth the little “harder” pack in/out.
Recently we were elk hunting and temps fluctuated from 15° to 45° and it rained/snowed almost every day. Without the stove we would have had no way to dry anything out. Being wet and cold could be the difference in a successful hunt or unsuccessful. Ask me how I know haha.

For me, it’s often about the combination of wet weather and cold. If I’m just considering the stove for the cold, I take a look at the daytime temps. If the days are warm then the evenings are usually mild.

During 1st rifle this year, I used the stove constantly during the first few days of heavy rain. After opening day, the moisture moved out and even though temps dipped into the 20s late at night, it was warm during the day and I didn’t even bother with the stove at all. This year was the first time in a few years that I brought a stove for 1st rifle. It can be nice to have and sometime clutch, but it’s also time consuming to deal with.

Do you live on snake island?? WTF.
Lots snakes in the woods & fields here. Those were in the woodpile in the tipi on 6/12. Good thing it was a tad chilly.... ;)

Man, I hate snakes. That is my problem here in the Tx panhandle. Rattlers are still moving even when the temp drops.

What temp range do y'all lug the wood stove to camp? I’ll be hunting 1st rifle (Oct 15-19) in CO. The temps look like it’ll be lows of high 30s/low 40s and highs of mid 50s during the day.
Shoot......I'll see nighttime temps down into the upper 20's even during September archery season. By mid Oct it gets COLD at night at 9k+ feet. I always use my tank-top 2-burner 30k BTU heater during archery to warm the tent up every morning before heading out. I'll also hang clothes to dry from the ridgepole above it.......works great.

But.......the colder it gets, the less efficient the heater/tank works. I have to wrap my 40lb tank with some sort of insulation to keep it working at full capability. As the seasons drag on, and it gets darker much earlier, the wood stove is always the answer.
