Unfortunately, there is a lot of truth in your statement.A myth.
Anymore anyways.
That is "sad". I have seen and experienced a "lot" of wildernesses, and I do consider it was a gift.A myth.

That doesn't exist in the US...Thing is, wilderness is going to be untouched, somewhere people haven't been before.
That's my view of it.
Anywhere that is mapped, isn't wilderness.
What do you mean when say, "mapped"....? Do you consider aerial photos converted to a crude map to be mapped, if no human was on the ground.....???Anywhere that is mapped, isn't wilderness.
I used to ferry small single engine planes between Alaska and Western lower 48 states. If flying down the coast or inland, that describes far more then 99% of the wilderness. To me wilderness is an area inaccessible by vehicle and can only be accessed by foot or stock.
Wow! definitely not wilderness I don’t care what that sign says ha haIn the East, you could be in for a surprise if you are seeking solitude in the wilderness. This was what I found at an Eastern wilderness trailhead a couple summers ago.

I agree with what you stated and I meant accessible by ground vehicles... I have a fair amount of drop hunts myself between Idaho and AK.I used to ferry small single engine planes between Alaska and Western lower 48 states. True, there is not a Wilderness east of the big river in the US. It is only a designation given to stop the harvesting of trees! In the East, you could be in for a surprise if you are seeking solitude in the wilderness. This was what I found at an Eastern wilderness trailhead a couple summers ago.

Hmm plenty of that outside WA, heck plenty of that still within forest service and not even designated wilderness. That doesn't exist in the US...
