Any suggestions for a pack fly that fits this bag well and holds up? (as well as a pack fly can)

EXO actually did an article IIRC about why they don't offer or use a fly. To paraphrase it, it boiled down to no real added benefit. but... I had a Kifaru rain cover I used for 4-5 years that held up well for what it is.

I like the Black Ovis one, if they still have them. Don't get the Large unless you're covering a 7200 loaded to the hilt, the M seems big enough to cover a loaded 5k.

Thanks for the suggestions on flys I'll check them out.
The exo guys make great packs and their gear suggestions are generally great for the areas they hunt but some of them don't translate well to the parts of BC that I hunt.

You have the 4 that secure the bag to the frame and 2 for the wing bags and 2 for the lid.

Here is an update albeit unorthodox compared to most of the western focused testing. Here is mine setup for cold weather whitetail hunting on public land where I have a long hike or kayak to get to where I need to be. After breaking or unsuccessfully testing more than 6 other whitetail focused packs that failed I figured western equipment would be better suited (Rokslide has helped me improve my gear light years compared to the usual big marketing stuff I had access to). This bag can also actually be useful out west as my other bags did not work as well and all were sold.
-Bibs, jacket, tree saddle stuffed in through bottom of pack with the divider unzipped to use the whole bag
-kill kit and puffy layers in wings
-4 sticks, platform and movable aider attached via buckles.

I much prefer the locking buckles on the wings especially if trying to really cinch things down.
Hopefully this helps someone that wanted a k4 example for taking mobile climbing equipment.

I think I'll probably have to replace my k3 with one of these sometime in the next year or so. I really like the function of the wings and how this bag can seemingly shrink down to daypack size so easily. I had been considering getting a small k3 to complement my 6400 bag, but I'd rather just go with a one bag fits all approach.

Also, I hate straps flopping about everywhere. I feel like I have a weird hunter bondage thing going on when I have to get stuff out of my pack

I got mine from Exo. You’ll need 4 sets to do all the straps.

Is there a need for strap extensions? I might be carrying snow shoes on the front of mine.

Also how many pockets can you fit on a medium exo belt? Can you run a bottle holder and a pouch on the same side and two pouches on the other?

You can fit a bottle holder and pouch on the same side but not two pouches. Look up the exo video on the bottle holder and you'll see that it goes in a separate spot from the pouch.

Deboned- no. But there are enough well placed straps on the frame and the bag that it secures loads as well or better than any pack I’ve seen.

Not deboned, but here is an rear elk quarter on the frame alone, which shows the compression without the pack in the way of everything, and another elk rear quarter with the pack on the frame. It compresses better than old school frame backs and kuiu packs, but I cannot speak to other packs.

Here’s a deboned elk quarter, backstrap and tenderloin. The exo does a good job of stabilizing a ball of meat.

I’ll also add the shape of the frame/attachments. Forms a bit of a V which seems to squeeze the meat as it settles more than let slide through like it sometimes would with my kifaru.

Exo frames have 2 extra straps on the frame itself, then wedge the bag. Works wonderfully and is fast. Bag kinda does not matter (as in model) in this scenario (photo with 3600). Whole mule deer.

I'm not planning on sharing much in the way of animal and hunt photos on the internet anymore, but a deboned deer and all of my spike camp carried very well. I do keep an abundance of paracord in my pack because I use it for everything, including helping to secure loads.

I am VERY impressed with the K4/terratorn. I’ve been stubbornly using my Kuiu packs for a few years..decided to try the k4 this year after I realized the Kuiu was making my back issues worse for whatever reason.

Was able to get an entire boned out elk back to the truck solo yesterday. It was 3.5 miles as the crow flies and about 1800ft above the truck, all downhill but no trail. Not terribly rough country.

No idea what the weight was but I did hind quarter, back straps/tenders, shoulder with blade bone in, and neck meat, plus antlers/skull cap as one load. The other load was all my gear/gun/etc and the other hind quarter, shoulder, neck meat. No real meat loss to speak of so it call came out.

Smallish bull but being able to haul a massive load I was able to get the whole thing done in one day..essentially two trips vs three.

The meat straps down to the frame very well in factory configuration and the frame and harness are nice and stiff to keep things stable.



Final load with the moon rising! Killed him before sunrise got him out just after sunset.

I know this is more about the terratorn…so far I like it, not a game changer, but functional and serves it purpose of easy access. I do like the wings for securing my tripod/15s, and gun.


This was the 3rd animal I packed this year with it, but deer are small/easy and don’t really challenge this pack
