What thumb release is everyone using for hunting?

Hey Peeps

Back into bow hunting after maybe five years away. Amazing how much has changed….and how much has stayed the same!

With that in mind, ive always liked the thumb release and interested to hear what brands and models people are liking

Also, I’ve noticed there is a movement toward using back-tension release aids? Be cool to hear the field experience first hand from those that have made the change
For the past month, I have been shooting a Carter Chocolate lite 4finger, and I have been loving it. I just ordered a 3rd get wise choice because I have heard awesome things about them, and want the closed in index finger.

I switched from an index to a thumb button a month ago and am learning to shoot with back tension. I am loving it for target but thinking ahead to next hunting season…. Those of you that hunt with one, do you have issues with back tension shooting in a hunting situation?

I got a Carter Too Simple. I like it, feels good in hand, short neck on it so draw length feels the same compared to my index. I bounce back and forward between my Wise Guy and Carter.

It makes me focus entirely through the shot in a hunting scenario. Conscious aiming and pulling into the release. Before hunting with an index I would aim at something brown and slam the trigger. I haven't had any hiccups with a handheld in the field yet.

Carter Wise Choice 3 finger. Fits my jawbone anchor like it’s made for it. I need to order another one as a backup in case they discontinue them.

Looking to upgrade to the Carter too simple or the wise choice. Got to try my friends wise choice and now I'm convinced it's time to ditch my B3 Rook

Carter wise choice and a nock 2 it interchangeably. Eventually looking to switch to a Stan onnex for hand feel and adjustability but for now the carters have been great.

Stan Perfex Long Neck here as well. Sucks that they discontinued them, but I did find one as a back up just in case. If anyone has one they want to get rid of I'll buy another just to have a spare for my spare :)

No, you usually have time. If it is a close shot with a short time window, you can squeeze the trigger with the thumb while pulling into the wall. If you want to do that at more distance, you will want to practice it. Having consistent tension in your shot is critical to accuracy. If you have target panic, I would save it for the few shots necessary while hunting. If you have complete mental control, some of the top target shooters squeeze the trigger with their thumb.
