What SXS if you were buying one tomorrow?

For those that bought from a dealer, can you negotiate price with them? How do you get the best deal?
 
I had a pioneer 1000. Now have a can am. All my ranch friends who had Honda now have can am as well. Honda is a very capable machine, but is hot, dusty, noisy, and rough riding

I price a few dealers and buy multiple machines at once to get fleet discounts. I've found that major dealers along interstates tend to price machines higher than smaller out of the way dealerships. Sometimes it's worth the drive to a small town dealer.

I see Toyota has something coming in the utv world, but can am quality I think has surpassed the rest. I’ve had 3 rangers and there fine just pore quality and engineering, but they do have a huge aftermarket list. More power more broken parts.
 
Based on this thread I looked at the can ams.

Do they have a model that’s a 5 seat (or 6) convertible bed option like the 1000-5.

I like the utility of a small bed and a few extra seats or a larger bed with 3 seats. Space is an issue for me.
 
They don't. My rear sets we just ok in the 1000-5 when the kids were young. They'd work in a pinch but not the most comfortable for an adult. Yamaha has one similar but I believe they slide forward so you do not get a full bed out of the deal.

I agree on going to the smaller dealers for a better deal but I think that's about $1,000 less is all or look at buying something hardly used

I found the opposite. I bought my machine a week or two before Christmas in 2024. I found the two largest kawasaki dealers in the Midwest( they advertise this, I didnt research) who had the two lowest costs on website with what I wanted in stock. I then started asking about freight, setup, additional fees. Then I put them against each other over a couple days. Each was within a 3 hrs drive and they knew who else I was talking too. Finally I hooked up a trailer and sent them a photo and said which way am I headed, north or south. This got the wheels turning fast and one guy knocked a few hundred off to get the deal done.


This was a cash deal. I probably moved the needle $800-1000 bucks but I like to haggle.
 
Let me ask this. If I live in CO at 9500’ where temps are “typically” cool. Would the “hot Honda” issues be as bothersome?

As long as you have air moving through the cab, It's not unbearable. You definitely feel it in the seat. They make an insulation pad that sits between the seat pan and seat frame that helps a little bit.
 
Can Ams are great machines, do not know about the maintenance or reliability first hand. Have owned 2 kawasaki mules. Newest is a 2019 mule pro fxt, fantastic and do not break. Just routine standard maintenance and they will run forever.
 
I have a Canam HD 10 and it has been perfect. It carries a 100 gallon sprayer that adds up to nearly 1000 lbs all over the pasture with no problem. Rides great and with a top speed of about 65 it can go out on the highway for a short period and feel like you won't get run over. Interior layout is head and shoulder above the Kaw Mule Pro, but that is also a great machine. Very reliable and rides really good compared to the old Mules. Nice and solid with steel bed.
The only 3 people I know that owned the Pioneer 1000 all sold them and bought something else. Having ridden in one once, no way would I own one and I like Hondas!
 
Just bought the Canam HD10 2 seater. Have 70 miles on it and seems to be what I wanted for about the exact usage the OP described. Sure there are others but this one seems good to go.
 
I’ve had a pioneer 1000-5 for about 5 years in southern Arizona and it has been perfect so far. Guy I bought it from put the insulation under the seat, and unless you’re sitting still idling I don’t think it’s any hotter then any other open cab vehicle….
It’s the only sxs I’ve personally owned so I can’t speak too much to reliability other then I’m fairly hard on it and haven’t had a major issue, and I do come across a few broken sxs every year out there. Seems like they’ve usually Polaris, not sure if it’s just because they seem like the most popular
 
We have used Polaris on our ranch for over a decade. When we just had one we'd put 10k miles on it a year. Since we started getting ones with cab/heat/ac, we road them a lot instead of haul them, they get used.

I'd say we have had pretty decent luck with them for the use they got. Each series has had better longevity and less repairs. We have 1000's with over 20k miles on them still working. The one thing I'd say on them is check the oil regularly. When they start using oil, they can use a lot and fail quickly. There is no pressure gauge or warning light to help you catch it.

For our use, warranty and the dealer I work with is a big deal. I buy the 5 year warranty and spend the extra $ to have them service the Rangers under warranty several times a year, plus buy the filters and oil from them when I do it myself. That maintenance record helps when I submit a claim. The warranty has paid for itself every time as the miles add up.

No real experience with the other brands so I can't compare. Just a few things to think about.
 
Currently have a Polaris XP900 and it's been a good, reliable hunting rig. I keep debating selling it to get a CanAm HD10 or 11 to get and enclosed cab to keep some of the dust out.
 
We use Polaris Rangers at work, full cabs with heat and tracks in the winter.
I own a ‘23 Commander 1000 XMR and a ‘25 Pioneer 1000-5. The heat issue is night and day difference between the two. The Honda will roast your ring piece after an hour or so in the seat. BUT, it has 5 seat belts, which was the consideration for that one.

Sucker feels tippy at speed (and when going slow through off camber obstacles) but a guy would get used to it if he wasn’t jumping between machines.
Same as the transmission, irritating as hell as it downshifts on its own when you let off the throttle. But a guy would get used to it. Definitely not as smooth when driving due to the shift points, but thats a geared tranny versus a belt thing. Tows better though with big weight.
 
I have had terrible luck with Polaris but dealers have been great over the years so keep running g there product. I wouldn’t look past a Honda or even a Yamaha they make great product I have a friend with a pioneer that has 50000km they use on their ranch every day and we had Yamaha quads growing up and couldn’t kill them
