I figure with Thanksgiving everyone should have plenty of time. What makes up your rig?

Brought home the foundation for the first one on Tuesday. Winchester Model 70, an ultimate shadow in .264 Win Mag, with a 26" barrel. Got a soft spot for CRFs, my thoughts are that this should be a good start, let me work my way out to 5-600 yards, and be a pretty decent hunting rig as well... Got a ways to go to figure out which scope, at first glance like the Christmas tree type reticles, BRH, velocity 600, and such. Or, dial for elevation, hold for windage types?
Get the scope on, then find a stock to fit, like the looks of the Manners EH 6, but no sense getting too far ahead of myself.
So, at this point, got a starting point, some loose objectives, and probably an awful lot of research to do..

Still in the build process. But using a pre 64' model 70 action trued and a Rock Creek 5R barrel 8.5 twist at 25 inches. No brake. Mcmillan hunter stock. All done in ceramic coat with silver accents and a strait flute on the barrel. Talley custom rings and bases with the same coating to match the barrel. Letter engraving of my name on the floor plate. Factory trigger because they work well even when dirty. Jeweled bolt. All done for the .280 AI. Gonna top it off with a Leupold VX3 4.5-14X40 wind-plex reticle and the CDS system. Cannot wait for it to be done!

Which 280ai chamber are you going with?

novaman, I have been contemplating that scope reticle combo. How fine are the lines in the reticle? Do they seem to cover up much of the target at longer ranges? Also, do you have cds turrets under the caps? Zero stop or something similar? Thanks!

Not trying to.derail this one. PM me back if you deem it more appropriate!

The middle of the reticle is open, so you can see the target, because its a second focal plane, the lines aren't gonna change size based on zoom, so if you are shooting a super tiny target at super far you might have issues, but I havent yet... At 18x is where the MOA substension are correct, at 9x they are double. For closer shots (under 400yds) i will hold over for elevation, past that I dial. Hardly ever dial wind, normally use the reticle for wind holdover.

I haven't ordered the CDS dial yet, I hunt and shoot from sea level up to 10k feet and temps from in the low teens and single digits to the 90's. What I have seen a few people do is order the CDS in MOA, and it replaced the existing turret and cap and makes it like a "tactical" style dial; that is probably what I am going to end up doing. It has zero stop that works within one rotation. You can go past 0 if you crank all the way down, but not a full rotation past, if that makes sense... Could probably shim it to get exact with some trial and error...

Other than that love the scope, main attraction for me was weight and magnification. Where I hunt I go from heavily wooded area for quick off hand 100 yard shots to having the opportunity to shoot 1000+. The 3-18 is great for getting on target fast, as well as having the power at longer distances. While I always lusted after a Night Force NXS, which is what I debated putting on this rifle, the weight is what def sealed the deal for me. Lets good light in and is crystal clear and has repeatable exact adjustments on the dials to no complaints at all. Only have had it for about a year (maybe a little under) so cant talk about longevity, but no issues so far...

Stevens model 200, Bison Gunworks 28" Sporter profile barrel in .280 Ackley
Vortex Diamondback HS scope. 168gn Berger VLD hunting over a stout load of Retumbo (3095 fps)
Factory stock, freefloated & bedded, fluted bolt, custom bolt handle, cheap-ass bipod.
Right now I'm still at the break in stage, but it's holding under 3" at 600yds. I haven't run it any farther yet. It weighs in at a gnat's under 11lb & is very muzzle heavy. I'm thinking I might have to up the weight by a pound in the butt to even things out & improve the balance.

Pm sent.
I'd rather not post my load. It's pushing it in 'my' gun. I'd hate someone to find out too late that it's too much for theirs.
