What guns to buy before a ban?

Technically correct, and I don't know how "gas operated" is defined within CO law, but in technical parlance gas operated is generally understood to mean that gas is being tapped off the barrel or muzzle at some point as opposed to using the force applied by gas to the case head as in blowback or recoil operation.

Which I'm pretty sure you know and are just being a bit pedantic.
Good point and I was being somewhat pedantic to illustrate what I first considered to be a poorly-defined rubric for the Colorado law, but now I wonder if this wording was fashioned with a sinister purpose in mind. Indeed, the term "gas operated" has a colloquial meaning as you stated, but I now suspect that the technical definition will be used later to ban all semi-automatic firearms in Colorado simply through the process of jurisprudence.

When the *&^% is the 2nd amendment going to be enforced?

The 2nd doesn’t get enforced by any governing body. It gets enforced by the people suing the govt when it overreaches. As it is a ‘negative right,’ indicating something the govt may NOT do, it is the people’s responsibility to sue.

DOJ can and does also sue states with things like this, including 2A issues. They're suing DC right now over its AR ban.

Grabbed a few lowers, might get a few more. Maybe a couple AR10 lowers. AK would be cool too. It's the death of 1000 cuts here in CO, I strongly urge people to become members of Rocky Mountain Gun Owners (RMGO) as they are the only ones I see fighting this bullshit in my home state. The law was worded so vague that its only a matter of time before its all semi auto handguns they go after. They won't stop.

CSSA is another good org here in Colorado. They will likely expand it to semi-auto handguns soon. Rumor is they will target all NFA items soon, this would include any suppressors. I doubt you will see it in this session as it is almost over so likely next year. Reports are that billionaire Bloomberg and his PAC Everytown has already poured millions into local state senate races. Effectively buying off the general assembly.

Sounds about right. Im 43, born here and love the state but am sickened by what its become. I'd like to stay and fight it out, but I have a feeling it will eventually get too out of hand for me to deal with. Thanks for the cssa rec, I'll check them out.

Look at CA, Suing the state does nothing to stop or protect. It takes years for it to get fought, years for it to get over turn and then when it does get overturned they already have a newly worded law to put in place. In the meantime we lose our rights. It’s a losing game. This is coming to every state.

Yes, there have been setbacks in blue states, but we've also seen gains in other states. Permitless carry is now the law in 29 states, and gun rights have been enhanced or expanded in 2A friendly states. And there's been a steady and significant migration from states like California and Illinois to red states like Florida and Idaho. IMO, we're seeing a move from the middle towards one side or the other on gun rights.

"Gas operated?" What nonsense. Every semiauto on the market uses pressurized gas to operate. Straight blowback, roller delayed blowback, long recoil, long or short stroke piston, direct impingement. This crazy law can be interpreted to ban literally every semiauto on the market.
That was the point to be obtuse and then snatch away anything at a whim. Also the people that craft these violations of our rights have 0 experience or working knowledge of firearms. Which is almost worse than if they did. They didn’t understand that the AWB which is what happens in august also would ban all semi auto pistols, and shotguns

There is wording in the i believe about shotguns and rimfire being excluded, but also that the shotgun exclusion is only for tube fed guns.

Colorado has become a liberal cesspool.
What always amazes me is the number of COLORADO ROKSLIDE posters here that use these forums regularly who are full blown Democrats who agree and vote with these ultra liberal, woke Democratic agendas.
Yeah I don’t know too many people like that on Rokslide, there might be a few but the ones I know of have been banned, most of us, especially those of us who are from the state are pretty staunchly conservative and wanted or asked for none of this BS. Saw a stat where only 30% of Co households are actually people who were born in the state currently, we were swarmed and became a minority overnight

That's the truth. I have very few friends that were born here. Thankfully most of them (my friends) didn't bring their politics. All these California transplants are like a plague, they ruined their state, then come here and vote the same way expecting different results.

I've come to much the same conclusion. Early forms of AWBs were indeed technically foolish but not by design. This law involves a technical definition that can easily be used to ban all semi-auto firearms, and it was done on purpose. And there's no reason to pass another law - all it needs is enforcement by interpretation in the courts. Any expert witness worth a pinch of salt could demonstrate the central role of gas pressure in the operation of a semi auto firearm.

It does come down to enforcement though, most cops I talk to and most sheriffs will not and have not enforced these types of laws. Just curious what the gun stores are going to do.

Are you implying a physical move? republicans leaving blue states and going to red states? I would agree but I do not want to leave CO.

Yes, a physical move is what we're experiencing, big time, in Idaho. We were already a deep-red state and the people moving here from Cali and Washington are even more conservative than most long-time residents. I've read about similar relocations to Florida and Texas. Indeed, some of the large blue states have lost enough people to red states that there will be a favorable adjustment to the House of Representatives.

I can certainly understand your frustration about leaving a beautiful state like Colorado with top-notch outdoor recreation. My brother and his wife faced much the same situation in northern California, before finally getting fed up and moving to Idaho upon retirement.
