What Did You Do With Your Old CDs?

I recently upgraded from my old truck that had a cassette player in it to a vehicle with no CD player. I’ve got probably 20-30 CDs of great music. I can’t think of a reason to keep them, and I don’t like holding onto things for the sake of it. Vinyls have come back but I don’t see that happening with CDs.

What have you done with your old CDs?

Mine sit in a case somewhere in my storage room. I don't think I even have a stereo or way to play them now.

If I want to listen to music that's on those CDs, I'll just put them on a spotify playlist and stream it.

Not everything on CD is available on streaming services. So if you value any of those, keeping them would be good. They can be transferred into your iTunes library if you're into the Apple ecosystem. Depending on what sound system you have in your vehicle, you may enjoy having those CDs on a USB stick and be able to play those songs on your drive.

I have no idea what happened to my old ones but I just bought a new Motley Crue CD. I keep a half dozen in the truck for when I'm driving around areas with no service and bad radio stations. I know I can download anything for off grid situations but there's just something good about CDs and trucks and two tracks.

I still have my leather zip up 300 CD binder with the slots in it. It’s in my office and I flip through all the “pages” every few years. Good memories.

In the late 90s, I was making a stupid long drive to S. Florida for a wedding. I had one of those huge CD books. I think it held 300 CDs or something. (somehow, we were able to drive while flipping through those). I picked up a hitchhiker at a gas station in Valdosta, GA. The dude totally swiped by CD book as he got out of the passenger seat. I realized what happened when I got down the road and I was so angry that I turned around and went back looking for him with the total intention of beating his ass. I didn't find him, but I was pissed.

I ditched my CDs around 2015.

Copied them all to external hard drive that I can plug into my truck with a USB cable. Then I put them back I storage.

I still have my physical media. I opted to keep my CD's DVD's and all my bluray discs. For the space it takes up in my house its good to keep IMO.
However I got it all ripped to a couple of my server drives now.
I have all of the music (45g or so) loaded onto usb drives for the cars which work fantastic.
