What did you do in the reloading room today?

From 2 days ago. Started a new load for my 7mag and just shot velocity at this rock, ended up doing all load development at that distance and turned out quite well for my standards and ability. Ive been using my spotter the record my data lately. Yellow rock at the bottom is 10" long

The main purpose of the day was to see if Remington 7.5 primers would stop blowing like the CCI400s and could improve the fps in my .223.

The short answer is it looks like an increase of 250fps going from CCI400s to Rem7.5s.

1. Pressure tested the Rem7.5s with XBR and 77gr TMK in my .223, including wet round test, and landed on 25gr.

2. Loaded and shot 23.5gr to 25gr, .5gr at a time, for 10 round groups to test accuracy. 25gr appears to be accurate.

3. Loaded 30 rnds of 25gr XBR to velocity and accuracy test tomorrow.

On another note, I primed and loaded 50 rnds of my first lapua brass to fireform. Interested to see if lapua brass will safely allow for a little more fps.

Don’t be surprised when the pockets on that fancy lapua brass get loose in a hurry if you’re stuffing them with 25 grains of xbr behind a 77.

I am loading 23.5 of Varget to fireform the new lapua brass.

In my small test nosler brass isn’t getting loose primer pockets at 25gr of XBR on the first load (2nd firing on the nosler brass).

Are you seeing lapua primer pockets get loose after forming and then first fire of 25gr of XBR?

We have a rifle doe hunt this weekend only that is a bonus hunt.
So loaded up some rounds for my 6.5CM and also some for my daughters 300 Blk. Swapped scopes on her rifle so need to sight it in the week and get her to the range for some shooting soon before Youth season comes up the first of Nov.

Tested 2 primers for group size and spent too long trying to make a cool YouTube video. The 3rd/4th groups in the video are actually the 1st and second. Seems my high cold bore shot goes away when i do a pass with a bore snake. Just confirmed in a test last night and this morning at 530 yds

Finally got the 6.5 WSM degreased, loct-tited, and torqued, including the trigger housing screw. Thanks to whoever, posted that thread about checking it out. Mine was oily as heck. Degreased and bonded SRS 20 MOA rail and degreased and loc-tited/paint penned the SWFA SS 3-9 HD.

Loaded up first pressure test rounds with N565 and 147 ELDM. Started at 62 and last is 66, and we'll see how it goes.
Shot the pressure test yesterday. Ejector swipe at 66 grains, but no bolt lift. It's Hornady brass and a Tikka, so I'm not surprised. I loaded up 10 last night and was planning to shoot a group today, but the wind is already blowing this morning. I will wait till we have a little calmer day this week and report back. I am cautiously optimistic as my pressure test "group" showed a lot of promise.

Painstakingly prepared my brass and load data for a real-deal 22-250 shootout between Varget and H4895. I should be able to finish loading them when the bullets get here this week.

I also loaded H4895 and a 150gr Core Lokt to test in my 300 Savage. H335 did well but I'm hoping for perhaps a touch more velocity.

Range test day is shaping up in a week or so and I'll report back.

Question to the group- I bought primed 270 WSM Hornady brass for my 6.5 WSM. I ran all of the virgin brass through a Lee 6.5 WSM full length sizing die. I loaded up some for my pressure test, and there was one round that would not chamber. I pulled the bullet and set this piece to the side for investigation, assuming it was a fluke. I loaded 10 rounds and function tested them today. 5 out of 10 rounds chamber as expected, one took some effort, and 3 would not chamber. I noticed that the 3 that wont chamber have a shiny ring about halfway down the case neck. All of these rounds headspace (Hornady comparator) within .002 of each other and they were all within maximum case length after sizing. I would love to hear any thoughts about the neck rings and solutions for this problem. 60% out of 100 pieces of brass is pretty poor quality if that is the issue and not a problem with my process.

Thank you in advance!

Please share pics of the ring on the neck.

Is the neck larger in the area of the ring or is it the same for the most part the whole length of the neck? Have you bore scoped your chamber by chance?

Pockets on mine were notably looser (but still hold primer) after virgin firing of 24.0 grains h4895 which is close to xbr but a little slower burning. I think my barrel builds more pressure than most though.
