What did you do at the range today?

Just got to ~1,000 rounds on my Sauer 100 6.5 Creedmoor -no cleaning at all. Checked my zero then checked the drop at 460 yards. I was having problems with my elevation corrections before this, looks like it was probably a tolerance stack situation. I basically tightened everything up with my zero, the actual range, the velocity, and a different ballistics program.

I havnt played with ballistic X much. How do you change your distance. I cant seem to change it from 100 yards. I'm sure im doing something wrong. (Android user here)

Been shooting daily still and I’ll take a random array of cartridges depending on the day. 22LR, 223, 6 arc, 6 creed, 6.5 creed, 280 AI, and 300 win mag. I haven’t shot the 280 and 300 a whole lot the past few years but it’s still fun getting them out and shooting the big guns every once in a while.

Did focused handgun practice today.
Specifically 3 step entry and exit drills for USPSA.
Finished with the FBI instructor qualification 30 round course of fire.

I wandered around the farm looking for things to shoot at while enjoying the beautiful spring weather. Not a single coyote or groundhog to be seen, but I did find a flock of at least eight wild turkeys, including one nice-looking tom. I practiced blank-firing squeezing off headshots at him until Connie the Wonder Mutt came charging in and scattered them. Two weeks until spring turkey season, by which time they will probably be in low earth orbit or something.

I finished up the evening with a brief zero confirmation on my .25-06, prior to starting load development for 134-grain ELDMs tomorrow. I could still see the crosshairs on the white background well enough to shoot a 1” 5-shot group at 8:00 with my SWFA 10x. I was pretty happy with that.

Well, a new night hunting set up arrived in the mail yesterday. Its the agm spectrum lrf4k. Today was sight in / calibration day for the scope. I set it on my semi custom tikka 223. Sighted in with 55gr economy target / hunting handloads. Its a 10 cent 55gr sp that groups sub 1/2 moa out to 300. Then went to my 75gr berger hunting load that flies at almost 3k fps. Verified my lrf on 300 yd gong, now we are ready to hunt! I need to get this rifle on a scale, its got to be 15lb plus, but its a joy to shoot possum, skunk, fox, coon, and coyote with, along with the occasional day time woodchuck or pigeon.

Shot 50 rounds of 223 from the PRS barricade and prone. Really digging the 85.5 long range hybrid targets out of the 223. Not sure if they will perform on game like my 77s and 73s but they sure mash steel out deep.

What twist, barrel length, speed, load data are you using?

I'm using a 1:8, 26", 2990 fps, 24gr tac load. SD of 10. 75gr berger vld, 2.45 coal

1:8 twist, 20” barrel, Varget powder, 2600 fps. I used hornady data for 80, 88, 90s for a starting point. I’m running Varget powder and was over book max on some with no pressure signs. Had loads going 2525-2700. My gun shot a load that was 2600 fps really well so I just rolled with that. My limiting factory is mag length with a howa mini I’m at 2.315 COAL to get them in my magazine. All these loads were 7-14 SDs with 10 shot groups. Once I get a 223 barrel and bolt face for my PRS gun I’m excited to load some longer and see how they are out of a longer barrel. Be a fun round for a trainer.

I bought a Tikka ranahan 223 for the action. Rebarreled it with an urban rifleman prefit nut barrel, 26" .86 muzzle, wilde chamber. I use an oryx chassis and aics mags giving me 2.5 max coal. Ive had really good results with almost everything ive feed it from 50gr vmax factory to 75 berger handloads. Its heavy, probably 15lb with the night scope, but its the cheap and fun choice, and probably the most accurate though the other tikka ace game 6.5 prc might beat it.

I've been doing pistol related things at the range lately. I've done four range sessions totaling 1,800 rounds of 9mm in the last 6 weeks just getting different guns broken in. Today's session was putting 350 rounds through my new CZ Shadow 2 to check for manufacturer defects before sending it off to get Cajunized. I'll be taking a pistol class in May and in the meantime I'm in the process of developing a dryfire routine.

Good to know. Once I get a bolt face and 223 wylde barrel for my prs gun I’m excited for the longer mag length for the trainer setup!

After a cold, but beautiful morning, wandering around the farm looking for things to shoot at, I sat down to sight in my new Tikka .243 with a 20” 1:8” twist. The first four ten shot groups averaged just around 1.54”. I love shooting a rifle with a RokStok.

Put 50 rounds through my new 6 Dasher, maybe including a few in some pests around the pond. Also checked zero after swapping scopes from my factory class NRL Hunter rifle to my teams class one for a match in a couple weeks.

Only a five shot group, but after another walk around the farm, I decided to do a magazine dump with the FN Mauser .25-06 and my new 134-grain ELDM handloads. I think this will work okay… with a slight adjustment before setting the zero stop.

What velocity are you getting with the heavies? I like my 75's on paper, need to try them on varmits soon.

I’m getting 2799.

I used to shoot a lot of groundhogs with the .25-06 using 70 and 75-grain bullets, but I don’t see the need to burn that much powder. So now I use a .22-250 or .223 for varmints.
