Ran through the new walk through course with the boys. It was a blast.

Shot another kraft drill today. This time with a tikka t3 7mm rem mag. The rifle weighs around 10.5 lbs and is "easy" to shoot prone. I wanted to compare positional shooting magnum versus lighter cartridge and see how i did.

The three prone shots are "sub half inch" and on the point of aim. Anything other than prone really shines a light on the recoil.

The other target is from the .243 a couple days ago. Same scope, same suppressor and very similar weight.

Saturday I shot 105 loads through my 223 trainer. Most were from the PRS barricade shooting 10 round stages at 330-650 yard targets. Shot a few stages modified prone off pallets as well. Today I did some load development and then shot two quick stages with the 223 again.

Shot 40 rounds of 6 CM, and 50 rounds of .223 at plates from 200 - 400.

Met two other club members. One of them his first time at this range. We talked about scopes, and I showed him a couple of SWFA scopes. The other fellow had a 240 Weatherby Mag, which I thought was an oddball choice but he seemed to like it.

Spun on a new 6CM barrel on my Tikka, so I did some load development today. H4350 and N555 are my tried and trued but gave some Superformance, Hunter, and 4831SC a go along with a few of the new 107TMKs. Superformance had a big ES of over 120fps but still gave a great group.

Shot 60 rounds from the 223 trainer. A few off PRS barricade, the rest off of the tripod and prone out to 650 yards. Low winds made for a great time to shoot. It’s been super windy here. A few days ago I was holding 4.5 mils of wind to hit the 650 yard targets with the 223.

Some lighter varmit load testing. Might make a coyote trip this spring.

60 gr vmax and 55 gr NBT 25ish gr of varget. Ten rounds were 1.6" with the vmax and 1.1" with the NBT. They'll work

That's got to be some of the best practical shooting situations you could ask for, in this walk-through course. Are these intended to be unknown distances for the people shooting the walk?

Yes. All distances are unknown. I try to make them challenging, but not difficult. I also try to make them as close as possible to replicating shot on game in the field.

Do you have a scenario that requires the use of natural terrain features for the rest? Like a shot that most people simply couldn't make offhanded and that leaves no reasonable way to set up a bipod/tripod/sticks, or maybe a 'I dropped my sticks off a cliff and the noise spooked a deer and I want to shoot him' scenario?

I do, a couple actually.

Today I did some pistol work at ten yards. Total of six mags, tried to keep everything on a playing card. Three mags were static and three were on the move.

Then I did some 100yd standing tripod work. 20rds, trying to keep everything on a playing card. I definitely need more work using a tripod standing.

I don’t shoot off a tac table very well either. I shoot much better off the post on my tripod.

I took the Sauer 100 6.5 CM back out to the range yesterday since it just got back with its new stock. I sighted it in again and tried out a few factory loads to try to get a feel for what it likes. It definitely prefers 140-grain bullets, but it doesn't shoot those as well as I would like. Not terrible though. In between groups, I shot my Tikka T1X offhand.

The two 129-grain loads were pretty ugly. 2753 FPS, SD of 11.1.

2700 FPS, SD of 12.1

I think I will use the Hornady 140-grain ELDMs I have on hand until I run out, then reload them. 2606 FPS, SD of 10.8.

The Federal Blue Box load shot about like I expected. 2650 FPS, SD of 16.

The Norma 140-grain loads were decent too. 2572 FPS, SD of 22.5

The Nosler 140-grain Ballustic tips looked like the load until shot #4 (marked as 10 below) blew up the group. 2644 FPS, SD of 26.6. Shot #4 was approximately 53 FPS faster than the average for the rest of this group.

I wanted to see if that “flyer” was on me, so I shot the rest of the box. 2656 FPS, SD of 17.6.

The wind was fierce and ripped the 143-grain ELDX target off the backer before I could go downrange. But it wasn’t spectacular.

The 147-grain ELDM target wasn’t worth recording. Neither of my 6.5 CMs has shot that load worth anything.

Went out to sight in my 7x57 Husqvarna after adding three new variables to the system: switched out a credo 3-9 for a SWFA 3-9, changed the Omega 300 for an OG, and a batch of 150 eldx handloads since the prior load of 120 TTSX never did better than 2 MOA on the best days. All credit to rokslide for this. The scope and suppressor were bought used here for good prices, and the handloads were put together using Form's painless load development method. Life gets easier when you keep things simple.

Did some load development for my 6mm arc with Varget, lever, some 108 ELDMs, 105 hybrids, alpha brass, and CCI 450s. Loads ranging from 2587 fps through 2815 fps. Found some winners for sure.

Had the mounting screws shear on my pic rail today and caught an NXS with my face.
Also found a pretty good group for my daughter's 243.
