What did you do at the range today?

Wind finally died down from 60 mph, so I got out to shoot my 223 loads at distance today. Wind blowing 10-15 mph off my back left from about 8 o’clock. Shot 112, 200, 282, 356, 465, 490, 600 at steel targets. Repainted everything and then shot a 10 round group at 600. I was pretty impressed with the group even with gusty winds. Then I shot a few more rounds quickly at all distances just trying to be on a time crunch. Went 29/30 on impacts, missed one at 490 due to not dialing down from 600 and shooting high. A lot of rounds down the tube on the 223 trainer the last few months and I’m really getting more comfortable with my wind calls.

Testing 115 dtacs in my 12.5# prs rig. 2026 will mark my 6th year of shooting competitively. I'm stepping away from the 25# race gun scene and getting back to a more hunting setup roots. It's 12.5# as you see it, without bipod.
MDT crbn, tl3, 24in rem varm ace 7.5tw cut in 169fb 6gt. Vortexs new 4-24 gen3 razor and a nomad ti XC with a Charlie brake out front.

Running 36.1gr H4350 at 2815mv, shoots really well 55-60k off, as in half moa 10 shot groups at distance. I can typically hold it on a 4" circle at 300y in hi/low standing hi/low kneeling positional practice. Should still be competitive in our local WPR league, however the forgiving weight of the race gun will be missed on unstable props!

Dorked around with dialing in a new scope on my 10/22 at the backyard range. Dialed it 7 clocks left after this 10 rounder.

CCI Standard Vel, remains the champ in this gun (and damn good in all my 22LR guns).

So, my middle child shot the 6.5cm the other day and the scope lens cap touched her forehead. Didn’t cut her, didn’t seem to bother her, but I stopped her shooting that rifle because I know she’s really sensitive to….ehhhh, everything…….

Back in the summer I’d let the two younger kids shoot a few reduced loads to get rid of some older 123 grain bullets I had laying around. Those are gone now but I have most of a box of 130eldms that likewise have no real use anymore.

I did a small, quick test today - Hornady brass, WLR primers, 38.5 grains of IMR4895, seated to the same depth setting as the 147s (so I’m assuming close to 2.93”), average 2704’ and hit almost exactly POA at 225 yards, which is the rifle’s regular zero distance. Data should be the same out to maybe 400 yards for either load. But this one calculates out at 84% of the recoil of our ‘regular’ hunting load.

To be clear, I didn’t wring this one out with 10-shot groups. Just a quick and dirty few shots to confirm what I expected. I may or may not hunt with this load the rest of the season. I have no intentions of shooting anything past maybe 250 yards.

Picked up a new 6mm creedmoor in a Seekins havak hit for shooting some PRS matches. Then I shot 50 rounds through the 223 trainer off a make shift barricade, tripod, and a few prone shots as well. It’s been crazy windy here so not shooting near as much this past week.

Putting rounds down a new barrel in 6XC

full rifle is 8 lb 3 oz with the suppressor.
IMG_9744.jpeg

Fired 5 round groups without the suppressor then 5 round groups with the supressor.

Four different bullets.

High with supressor low without, as expected.

I had 15 each of the 105 hybrid and the 95 TMK.

Next time out I’ll get a better zero with the suppressor after I decide which bullet I’m going to use. Leaning toward the TMK since I’ve never killed anything with them.

I now have 100 rounds on the barrel and all my brass has been fired once.

Loaded up a can worth of 45's. Damn accurate load. To bad my seating die was off by about 1/2 turn :ROFLMAO:

94/22 got drug out to burn up some janky ammo

That’s a slick setup! Peak 44 looks very good. Nicely done

Predator hunting has been horrible without snow yet so I’ve been dicking around with a tripod. Sub 2lb tripod and head and a sub 9lb suppressed gun may not be the ideal setup but it’s working nicely for me so far.

Picked up an HNT26 chassis to play with. Dropped my Tikka 223 trainer in it before committing to a full build. Really like it! But having a hard time justifying it. I have two PH3s that are shooters.
Very torn.

Played with the new 223. Got her zeroed. Zeroed out the new maven on the 22 Creed and made sure my backpack folding 300 blackout SBR is good.
First time shooting a suppressed 223 bolt gun. Holy that's too much fun. Like a big 22! So quiet.

That's what I was shooting yesterday, too - wicked fun! Shot probably 50-75 rounds of 223.
