What did you do at the range today?

Yesterday shot 2 different 5 shot strings to verify velocity difference between CCI & Win Primers w/ the 147 ELD-M. Also loaded up 4 ladders w/ a few different bullets for comparison.

T3x w/ 19.25" barrel.

Win primers were slightly flatter but reading online it sounds like they're softer sometimes. Up to 43 gr still had no other pressure signs w/ the 147 ELD-M.

Have a few other bullets to try still so I loaded up ladders to get a rough idea of velocities and pressures. Shot the 156 EOLs today. Probably end up trading them for 140 Hybrids or Elite Hunters.

Have you tried 140 and 130 eldm? Those and some 130 TMK if they ever become available again.

I love me some bergers but slow short tikka barrels and 130s get along pretty well. Plus I bet you can trade 100 of those 156 for 200 eldm.

147s are the only eld-m I have. I have some 143 eld-x and 140 hybrids and elite hunters though.

I'm loading 10 of each mainly for the purpose of figuring out what each one does velocity wise. If I can get the 140 elite hunters close to 2700 (which I think I SHOULD be able to), I'll probably develop a load for them. I know most people speak pretty highly of the 147s for hunting so maybe it's overkill to keep the 140s too, but I'd like to gather some of my own data too on both.

Whatever I don't shoot will be up for trade.

140 elite hunters in my 20” are at a comfortable 2650, 2700 is where pressure started, but that’s a weird barrel.
140 hybrid is a hell of a bullet and damn near the same as the elite hunters.

I prefer eld/tmk performance when it comes to expanding, but the 140 elite hunters did okay for me last year. 140 hybrids until now have been my go to bullet it my match gun. They hammer, and are not finicky. They are also one of the most wanted bullets now, and I’m assuming when they come back around they are going to be 60+ cents a piece. For that reason Iv switched to the eldm for that rifle.

43 of h4350 and 147s sounds hot! My go to, across rifles is 41.5 of h4350 over a 140, pretty much universal comfort load.

If you ever decide to part with either of those 140s…. I’d be a buyer.

The only pressure sign was the decrease in velocity but with a sample size of 1 it could be an issue with that particular round too. This tikka create very light swipes randomly sometimes (close and open bolt without firing even) which sucks haha.

Do you hunt with the hybrids and the 140 eld-ms?

Iv used 140 elite hunters. I wouldn’t hesitate to use the hybrids or elds.

Tikkas have pretty stiff ejector springs, they beat up brass a bit.

Kraft challenge. Got screwed up on sitting and kneeling. Pulled a few but the worst was my second standing shot! 😬

What kind of support are you using for standing seared and kneeling, and are you using the factory tikka stock?
Had an a frame ladder out and threw a thunderbird sticky bag with git lite across a rung. Kneeling was across my kids picnic table with a GC lite as the front support, sitting was with a GC lite on my deck handrail and I was sitting on my kids bench.

I had 150 rounds to fire form yesterday so I worked on standing shots with a lightish weight tripod. I played with different heights and body positions to try and figure which was most stable for me. Concluded that I need to keep practicing! Lol

I had some goofy shifts with the factory stock when shooting positional, both with and without the ground out barrel bumps. I also think a vertical grip helps a lot, and it’s a cheap upgrade to slap on. That and with git lite I really need to settle it out with my support hand. I shoot with my hand over the front scope ring, and occasionally apply some pressure to help settle the git lite, not like shooting off a sand bag but it helps. Stay off the bell that can cause some shift as well. Worth a shot.

Other stuff I found really helped shrink my positional wobble and shirts was taking it really slow, playing with body position, and checking both cheek pressure and firing hand pressure by releasing slightly from the rifle, got it down to where I’m comfortable fairily quickly and have minimal reticle shift when coming on and off the gun.

Not an expert by any means but Iv been playing with a lot of stuff with that Kraft drill. It’s without a doubt making me a better shooter all around.

Quick one with some old 77tmk ammo, rough zero bit me a bit. 223 with git lite psgc.
Set up a buddies tikka in 223 he just got and started to break in the barrel. I took a few cracks with it. Definetly don’t miss the factory tikka stock.

Signed up for what will be my first 2 day match. Only one in wi, sold out in 20 minutes. Lots of practice needs to happen before July.

Any good 1 day matches in WI you recommend just for fun?

Seems like another good way to get some practice in.

The WPRC matches, most of which are held down near cascade wi are awesome matches. Not a flat square range, good competition, cool stuff to shoot off, wide range of targets. Fun time shooting. Happy to share more of your interested.

Shot up the last of my 140 hybrid mixed lot last year ammo. Started with a Kraft drill, wasn’t happy with it, followed by some kneeling and tank trap timed drills. Tank trap was something that bit me last match and I had it in my notes to practice. Now I need to get caught up in the reloading room.

I have to ask... Why are you not happy with that kraft drill? The 1 that's not in the group?

The three outliers. I had in my notes that this ammo required a tenth down for a zero, which I didn’t account for. But I threw two of those standing, the other was prone that I equate to an ammo anomaly. I’m happy with a 1” hole with that rifle, can tell I havnt been shooting it as much as the 223.

Next few months I’m going to focus on a lot more match gun stuff and less on my others. Kraft drills, 300 yard paper and more drills at 1-1.5moa non painted targets are on the menu.
