Nasty day to shoot. 18 degrees with 20mph gusts. Shot the 223, with a pint sized git light game changer. Positions where shot off a bench seat, retaining wall and a gun rack.

Zero was moved a tenth prior to shooting.

2 poor performances were me.

Didn’t stick around to do any more shooting.

Great drill.

Doe anyone know how to calculate your Kraft number? I know I can input in on chis’ site but that’s a pain in the ass on my phone.

Then from my understanding stress test is 10 seconds plus my highest number, so 14 seconds for the above.

Shot a Kraft slow fire challenge with the 223 tonight. Guess I'm not 1/4" MOA all day long.....

CZ 527 223
SWFA 3-9 Mil Dot
69 SMK handloads
Shot standing, kneeling, seated off a Pint sized Git Lite Gamechanger on an adjustable aluminum step ladder. Prone off a backpack with Gamechanger as a rear bag. As usual, i do better the closer to the ground i get.20220312_172507.jpg20220312_173804.jpg20220312_174023.jpg

Dusted off and moved a scope to my match gun. Was going well for a while then I fell apart. Spoiled by suppressors for the whole winter I need to get my mind straight when I’m behind a brake again.

Need to do some serious practice before April when match season begins around here. That and sadly I need to work up a new load being as I havnt found 140 hybrids since last year. Need to decide on 144 lrht or 140 eldm.

I just now realized I posted this in the wrong thread a couple days ago 😅

After a a lot of dry fire, I was confident that I'd be able to keep them all inside the positional Kraft target. Going clockwise starting in the top left: standing, kneeling, seated, prone. Fairly steady 9oclock 10mph wind, should have bumped a tenth or two right before shooting, oh well.

One of my favorite parts about the Kraft challenge is not only the progress that it shows in your shooting but it also allows you to isolate and show the positions where stability is lacking. I was doing HORRIBLE from a high kneeling position so every time I went to the range I shot that position. Over the course of a couple of months, I have brought it down to this. Still not perfect, but far better than the previous results!

I just wanted to follow up on this. Chris way just did a podcast on the Going Ballistic podcast (#103) and he talks about how this will help hunters so I just wanted to talk shorten it down on here. He says that the average throughout all the targets that have been submitted to his website is 4 inches. That is through the 4 different positions (standing, kneeling, sitting, and prone). If you are average and shoot 4 inches then your MAX effective range on a 12-inch kill zone is 300 yards. The 12-inch kill zone is just a good round number so that is what I used. Now if you practice and can drop your average shot size down to 2 inches, it will make your MAX effective range 600 yards. By putting a number on this, it allows shooters to diagnose their max effective distance and have true confidence with a shot in the field. There are things that are not replicated in this 100-yard drill like wind reading, buck fever, or all the other variables that are faced when hunting but it does show your max range from different positions in the perfect environment.

Rainy, windy, cold, crappy day.

I always have to really mess up one shot. Standing off the ascend tripod is pretty wobbly with a 10 pound gun. I think realistic for this rifle is if I can hold 2moa through positions with the equipment I currently have.

Need to figure out a better standing prop, sick of hunching over, also makes me wonder what I could do on a bigger tripod as well.

I really like his take on shooters ability especially when combined with the rifle to make an accurate shot at range. The way he breaks down the data to be able to tell how well an individual has to read the wind to with X caliber, really opened my eyes, and made me wonder why the hell nobody else is talking about this.

Exactly! Scored on one couple weeks ago on Europtic. I'm a lefty and I've been looking for a .223 left handed like forever. Form alerted me on the CTR. Very nice rifle, I'm impressed.

Broke in the brand new 5.56 Black Rain Ordinance barrel & fired a 5 shot group, it’s showing potential. 7.5lb milspec trigger is probably getting replaced. Oh, & Black Rain’s recommended barrel brake in procedure takes way longer than their stated 90min….😆

I re-zeroed my practice barrel on my backup/loaner rifle, then did some positional shooting. I tend to shoot off the bench a lot through the winter, because it’s too damn cold, and I’m too damn old to do much else in the deep part of winter. Was glad to see it wasn’t a fluke the last time I swapped barrels- less than 2 MOA, and repeatable between the two barrels I swap on this rifle (7-08AI hunting barrel, 6.5CM factory takeoff I practice with). Now I have the scope offset, and should be able to adjust before I go shoot. Didn’t even take it out of the stock for the barrel swap, either.

Primary hunting rifle (identical rifle in 280ai, with a carbon barrel) gets just a cold bore shot most of the time, from a random field position, off a field rest (pack, crossed hiking poles, bipod but with a wadded up jacket or something for a rear rest etc) at a random distance.

Hah. I'm also a lefty and got the exact same tikka 223 ctr from them a few weeks back, topped with SWFA 3-15. Indeed a nice rifle. 75eldm over XBR in lapua brass is looking great.

I’m still waiting to see some Kraft drills of guys shooting lightweight magnums…..

Got out today, shot a quick Kraft drill, and headed home. Winter is back in WI. Found a solution for standing that didn’t involve hunching over or using my light tripod. Threw in the flush mag to get a more balanced rifle as well and shot off a pint sized game changer git lite bag. No idea on what that low shot was, was the last prone shot, I’d guess an ammo mess up as the shot felt good but it counts regardless.

Here's an idea, everyone who posts a Kraft challenge with a rifle they actively hunt with in the next month gets entered in a Rokslide giveaway. How about it, @Ryan Avery ?:)

I plan to do it with mine as soon as I find some time, although it's not a lightweight magnum.
