I just wanted to follow up on this. Chris way just did a podcast on the Going Ballistic podcast (#103) and he talks about how this will help hunters so I just wanted to talk shorten it down on here. He says that the average throughout all the targets that have been submitted to his website is 4 inches. That is through the 4 different positions (standing, kneeling, sitting, and prone). If you are average and shoot 4 inches then your MAX effective range on a 12-inch kill zone is 300 yards. The 12-inch kill zone is just a good round number so that is what I used. Now if you practice and can drop your average shot size down to 2 inches, it will make your MAX effective range 600 yards. By putting a number on this, it allows shooters to diagnose their max effective distance and have true confidence with a shot in the field. There are things that are not replicated in this 100-yard drill like wind reading, buck fever, or all the other variables that are faced when hunting but it does show your max range from different positions in the perfect environment.
