What did I hear in the woods last night?

Had a whippoorwill go off about 10 ft. from me. Pitch black morning in the woods, dead still. Ft. Leonard Wood, MO , turkey hunting. The night before I had made the mistake of watching a documentary on MoMo , the Missouri Monster ( Missouri’s Bigfoot ). Gun went up in the air, turkey chair flew off in another direction, felt like I went up 6 feet at least…..I don’t know for sure, but I probably screamed. That was in 1976. I don’t think I’m quite right yet.
The screech owl situation was on my property in NE MO up near the Cannon dam. Scared the living $hit out of me and I was 50 years old. Got out to the stand and my heart beat was out of control. Damned that thing was loud.

We had 4 bears talking to each other last night, like they were starting their rut. We have heard it before but not this early. It doesn’t sound like your video though. I can’t post a video of it because it shows my honey hole, but it’s a trip when you hear 4-7 of them talking to each other all around. Your video sounded like an African lion through my phone 🤣

I will go to my grave saying this is the scariest critter in the woods. I guarantee these guys cause a small percentage of heart attacks a year.
Man when I was cowboying a while back you'd be trotting along a ridge top right at sunrise and have a group of grouse flush up right in front of your horse. That was the biggest test of a hangover induced balance deficiency I'd ever experienced and would wake you up faster than any cup of joe.

If you've ever had a screech owl let loose 20 feet above you in the dark, that is a life changing situation. Even if you didn't have a heart attack.
I walked out of the back door of my house a couple years ago, in the city, to let the dogs do their business. Right behind me, about ten feet and on the roof, this stupid owl let loose a scream/screech that almost did me in. I seriously didn't know whether to run or drop and cringe.... Looking back, it was hilarious that an owl could scare me so bad.
