Without getting into the politics or environmental effects of PFAS chemicals, it appears that they are eventually going to be outlawed in the US. I'm not a material expert, so I'm trying to figure out what pieces I should add or stock up on prior.

What clothing technologies are going to be going away due to this?

I'm going to start researching and reaching out to companies and will add them to the lists below.

PFAS materials:
Goretex
eVent
Visp (Enlightened Equipment)

non-PFAS materials:
Vertice (Zpacks)
eVent BIO

Why would you want to hoard that stuff? Are you a fan of cancer?
I wouldn't consider myself a fan of cancer but my Crispi boots use goretex so I would say I am a fan of dry feet.

I was unaware of this so I may be picking up a couple pairs or boots. If only they still made the original Valdres...

I’d get some rain gear for sure. Hearing people on the inside talk about it, performance is definitely going to suffer.

With that said, I don’t think anyone that’s wanting to make money is going to come out and say our product now uses inferior treatment. The switch will be made as quietly as possible.

I’ve got a rain gear set from kuiu that I’ve had for 5 or 6 years. It’s made in Vietnam and has kept me bone dry through need your head checked for hunting in this type of rain. I recently bought the exact same jacket in a solid to wear around town. It’s now made in china. Haven’t had a chance to test its performance compared to the older one. The cut and sewing is slight different between the two as well.

A few months ago, I picked up a discontinued rain jacket from Black diamond. I forget the name, but it’s a heavier, duty jacket, and uses Gore-Tex pack light. I don’t know if the chemical we’re talking about is just in the DWR or if it’s in the membrane itself. This was a $300 jacket I picked up for $85, so yes I would definitely keep an eye out for products that are getting discontinued just for the money savings of nothing else.

Cool, I’d rather die of hypothermia from leaky rain gear than cancer anyway.

Are the PFAS the new global warming? Maybe the new Covid or maybe the new war on terror?

Every couple of years the “experts” tell us that they have to save us and they have to do it right now. They then create a fistful of onerous laws and regulations that only later we find out it was all a mistake or grossly exaggerated
