News flash, the only thing in common we all have in this life is that we are all dieing. Everyday we are closer to the last one.

The Spanish flu also hammered pregnant women. It was all due to an auto immune response. Quite horrible apparently. It was a strain of H1N1 as I recall.
News flash, some people are wayyyy closer to it than others.

And yes, Spanish flu was significantly worse. I agree.

Thats a lot of what ifs tdot.

It absolutely is.

If we stay ahead of it, maybe they can stay what ifs.

And there are projections that are considerably higher then that. Germany has said they could have a total infection rate as high as 70%. Even if they are wrong by a factor of 7. That is still a 10% infection rate.

WHO had the death rate at 3-4%. Some of the long term projections are closer to 1%.

So I've used some of the lowest numbers from reliable resource. They aren't opinions, guesses, wants or desires.

There are 1.3 billion people in mainland China. There are roughly 81,000 confirmed cases. That’s an infection rate of .00006. It’s still early, but the statistics at this point don’t warrant speculation of 10% infection rates and U.S. death tolls into the millions.

Wuhan, China also shut down after the first 400 cases were discovered. Like for real shut down.

It's been over in China for a week. There won't be 20K dead in the usa in 2020 let alone 350K.

The models I am seeing so far show 70,000 cases and 1,500 deaths. To early really to tell and more data is better. Time will tell. I believe the containment procedures will do their job.

Also basically over in South Korea and they didn't shut down.

China is back up and running so if this is really that bad you should see another wave starting up again over the next couple of weeks.

You won't ever see the infection rate or death tolls climb because of the containment protocols already deployed. Not containing this would have been a lot worse, IMO.

South Korea executed their SOP to near perfection. Their model for containment is one every country should have for the next "big one".

Then I wonder where those projections of double digit infection rates came from? I mean, there are people working in the CDC and WHO who have collectively spent 1000's of years studying and researching outbreaks, viruses and how to contain them. They've studied more Pandemics then you or I are even aware of. I'm ok with giving them the benefit of the doubt that maybe they know more them me.

Then there is the Chinese. Have you read about their response? The speed and efficacy of it was crazy. Oh, and they dont generally give a sh!t about their citizens. Why were they scared? Why did they listen to their experts? I bet you they know their own population numbers and infection numbers better then anyone. Yet somehow they came to a conclusion that led them to imprison 60million people, over night.

Good question. The numbers I cited are readily available from a multitude of sources. Not saying things can’t change, but the math doesn’t scare me at this point. I’ll continue to take a pragmatic view until the data shows otherwise.

If you want to believe in these people and their numbers thats fine by me. Last I checked I live in America and I have the right to not trust them. Please quit pushing your ideals on me.

I'm not pushing my ideals on you, anymore then you are pushing your ideals on me.

This is just a conversation. Am I not free to speak my mind. Same as you are free to speak yours?

My family members have served and died for this country. For the right that I could live free and make my own choices.

You have been pushing your side of things in this thread for many pages back. It is my right if I want to work or stay home. Not the governments or yours.

The government or you are not going to help me pay my mortgage. I as many need to work and create income. All the need to do this or should have done that talk will not stop that.

You and others can run all the numbers you want. It will not change the fact that the virus will be a small percentage of the disaster that will be.

I actually totally agree with you. The current data when presented like you did is not something to be afraid of. And I'm sorry if I've come across as running around terrified of my own shadow. I'm not. I think its embarrassing how many people are acting. I've not bought TP in a week, and when I went to the store a couple of days ago I bought medicine to help us be comfortable if we have the flu and topped up the food to feed my family for a couple of weeks as we will likely be quarantined atleast once, due to the nature of my wife's work.

However, I answer to my family and my employees. Not 100's of 1000's of people. So while I may not 100% agree with every step and move they have made, I'm also not going to undercut them. They have to make some tough decisions based on the needs of a population and I can understand how easily the math could drive them in that direction.

I'm also saying that 8 weeks of no work will suck balls. But a year of chaos would be exponentially worse.

Not sure 8 weeks without work will be less chaos than a year of a maybe escalated virus.

Wait, no I am sure it will be worse.

So it's ok to push your ideals on me? As I said. This is just a conversation. 2 sides to every coin, 2 sides to every discussion. Am I not allowed to be a dissenting voice, do I have to agree with you simply because you disagree with me?

And thanks for your families service. My family has served, died and continues to serve right now.

Absolutely not. You can voice your opinion all week long. Thought you needed a reminder that your not the only opinion out there.

Take care.
