What are my best options for an Elk Daypack/Meathauler?

I'm looking at grabbing a new pack that will be primarily a day pack going out from basecamp and likely headed back to camp at night. I'd like one with the option of a possible overnight and then ability to be a solid meat hauler when needed. This will be for elk this September but will be used for future trips for deer as well.
Currently looking at the Eco 1800 K3 frame, Kuiu Icon Pro 2300 and the MR Pop up 28...what are some other solid options? Which Kifaru?
Thanks

I bought the Kifaru 22 mag last year and liked it for a day pack and was planning on hauling meat but that part didn’t happen haha

MR Mule is lightest option to fit your request. If using for multiple day hunt just place gear in a lightweight dry bag and place in meat shelf.

I have the 22 mag and a custom pods 8 on a nice frame. I like the compactness of the nice setup in the jungle of north Idaho. The 22mag layout is killer. I've hauled several on a badlands 2800 v1 and it beats the others in noise and speed to get loaded and boogie.

That's a great question. There are many packs that open up to 5000 ci or better, yet compress down to daypack hunt mode. One reason I love the DT-1. I can pack 10 days worth, and probably more, and compress down to nothing. It will hold more meat than I can carry.

Kifaru light or ultra light frame, with the Stryker bag sounds like it would do well for you. you can also run the Sherman pocket with the Stryker for more room, and a camp bag with it for overnights.

/\/\ this is a nice set up for what you described. Also the Exo 1800 would be a great choice.

Hard to beat Kifaru and I would buy a big bag since the weight penalty is really minimal and most of them pack down to almost nothing if you need them to do that.

I originally got an Eberlestock X2 and loved the layout, but didn’t know enough to measure my torso first. It worked great for OTC archery last season, until I added the weight of my buddy’s blind and found it was too short for me, and sucked over 35#.
I chose the MR Cabinet to replace it. Feels much lighter than listed weight, carries 60# well.
I also just grabbed a Pintler bag for later season hunting.
If I get into spike camp/bivy type hunting I’ll probably put camp/food in 45-55L sack on overload shelf. I should be good for everything in AZ now.

I have used several different brands for this same type thing. kuiu, kifaru, mystery ranch and Seek outside. The one I still have and use is Seek Outside with a Kuiu bag. Kuiu frame/suspension didn't handle heavy weight or fit well for me. I didn't like kifaru or mystery ranch pack bags. Kifaru frame just didn't work for me. Mystery ranch is just very heeavy compared to the others and even worse when they get wet.

I've got a Mystery Ranch Beartooth 80 that I use as my all around pack. Whether I compress it down as a day pack, or expand it and have it for multiple days in the country.
I've packed out two bulls with it now, and it was nothing short of an awesome pack! It has everything I need.

For me, it was more important to find a comfortable frame before falling in love with the bag options.
I liked having the MR Metcalf for day hunts, as it would compress down but also allowed to expand if wanting to do multi day. The meat shelf will also allow you to pack out meat with your gear. I now have the Kifaru Stryker that I have not yet used. It's a smaller bag I'll use for day hunts and weighted hikes, but it's also designed to carry gear and meat in its expandable shelf. With multiple lashing points, you're able to make sure everything is secure.

The Kuiu pro 3600 is a solid option, I’ve been happy with mine, it’s great for a daypack, Carry all your layers in cold weather, and could do an overnighter without maxing it out

To carry out an elk, I recommend a larger frame/pack. Not for the bag size but just that only a larger frame/pack will be designed to carry heavy loads.

I use a Stone Glacier X Curve frame with Sky Talus 6900 bag. It's very lightweight and the extra few ounces more than the 'perfect' bag is unnoticeable.
