What Archery-Related Rabbit Hole Are You Into This Offseason?

I’ve been shooting trad since 2016 and now going back to a compound. Talk about a change in bows….last one was solo cam solid limb (heli-m) and now it’s split “split” limbs (ha) with dual cams and big risers. Shooting a 33” ata compound for first time, apart from my first bow (38” ata) and it’s all just a lot different, yet the same.

Trying to thumb button release, and messing with arrow setup at bit as well. Settled on rip tko shafts but looking at the HLRs for a hunting arrow, just messing with SS half outs or HIT/collars for front end system.

AND i might try hybrid mechanicals. LOTS of rabbit holes here.

I'm working on shooting from different positions (sitting/kneeling/leaning), shooting with an elevated heart rate, and doing longer holds before releasing.

Otherwise, I've spent enough time tuning my bow and arrows. I'm happy with my setup and have no plans to change anything moving forward.

Chasing speed vs. arrow weight currently trying to find the happy medium but the more I dig into it the more it pushes me towards arrow weight, current set up is 460gr arrow at 290fps

Contemplating beefing up to 480gr or 490gr and that would put me about at 280fps possibly

What distances do intend to shoot an animal, and what animals are you hunting?

I am hunting deer and elk this year with the bow, Idaho and Wa……. I am comfortable and confident out to 80…… the typical western hunting longer range shots was a little bit of the reason I was thinking to bump up my fps

I am experimenting with lower gpi arrows and higher FOC and lighted nocks. My overall arrow weight is a little higher than before and my measured and calculated FOC is 18.9%. so far the bow tuned up real easy and the accuracy is good. time will tell if I think the effort was worth it or not.
