What Archery-Related Rabbit Hole Are You Into This Offseason?

I’ve been shooting trad since 2016 and now going back to a compound. Talk about a change in bows….last one was solo cam solid limb (heli-m) and now it’s split “split” limbs (ha) with dual cams and big risers. Shooting a 33” ata compound for first time, apart from my first bow (38” ata) and it’s all just a lot different, yet the same.

Trying to thumb button release, and messing with arrow setup at bit as well. Settled on rip tko shafts but looking at the HLRs for a hunting arrow, just messing with SS half outs or HIT/collars for front end system.

AND i might try hybrid mechanicals. LOTS of rabbit holes here.

I'm working on shooting from different positions (sitting/kneeling/leaning), shooting with an elevated heart rate, and doing longer holds before releasing.

Otherwise, I've spent enough time tuning my bow and arrows. I'm happy with my setup and have no plans to change anything moving forward.

Chasing speed vs. arrow weight currently trying to find the happy medium but the more I dig into it the more it pushes me towards arrow weight, current set up is 460gr arrow at 290fps

Contemplating beefing up to 480gr or 490gr and that would put me about at 280fps possibly

What distances do intend to shoot an animal, and what animals are you hunting?

I am hunting deer and elk this year with the bow, Idaho and Wa……. I am comfortable and confident out to 80…… the typical western hunting longer range shots was a little bit of the reason I was thinking to bump up my fps

I am experimenting with lower gpi arrows and higher FOC and lighted nocks. My overall arrow weight is a little higher than before and my measured and calculated FOC is 18.9%. so far the bow tuned up real easy and the accuracy is good. time will tell if I think the effort was worth it or not.

This is where I need improvement, too. Shooting more realistic shots instead of just on the flat range. Planning to do a couple more 3D shoots this year

Probably going to mess with the back bar a little. I have the lift 33 shooting bullets and now the cable serving on the post is untieing, so need to get that reserved. Continue to work on form and command shot.

Considering optimal arrow weight and then FOC. I currently shoot about a 510 grain arrow out of an old bow (15+ years), so it’s slow. They shoot great, but at longer distances small errors in range make a big difference and I’d like a little more forgiveness.

New bow this year. Just transferring all of my stuff from my Prime Inline 5 to my new today Lift X 33. Will be doing a few TAC events to prep for fall along with local 3d's. I have about 10 arrows through the thing, no tune, rest barely set up and stacking arrows at 30 yards already. I'll have to go down the hunting arrow rabbit hole as I want to go a touch lighter than my 460 grain FMJ's. 3d arrows are about 395 and they zip right out of there. May try and go back to fixed broadheads with all the "easy" tuning mods on the new bow.

This thread is making me feel less crazy. I'm trying to recover after blowing it on my BOAL (bull of a lifetime) last year. Reevaluating everything but put in for archery tags again! Stupid!

Don't want to get divorced, so probably not a new bow. But I'm dropping poundage with goal of more shooting and for longer. So new arrows - trying altra at shop recommendation (learned made in China after he built them, dang it!). Going to get over the social anxiety and shoot the local 3d league I think... Or just do some hikes in the woods with the bow.

I was thinking about jumping up to #70 on my bow to get a little flatter trajectory and range forgiveness but I just reflected some arrows with new vanes and more offset. I think I'm going to stay at #60 for now and see how the new fletching works first. Changing one thing at a time is probably the best way to go. Also, my shoulders will like it better if I keep it lower.

Later this year I may try a couple different broadheads to see what shoots the best with my setup. I'm hesitant to try a mechanical head but the more I read and see the more I may want to just try it for myself so I can see if it makes much difference on my accuracy or not
