Hi all, I’m looking to sign up for my first TAC event this year. Most likely the one in Pico, VT as I’m in MA.

Anyone else doing TAC this year?

I’m interested to hear about any tips on gear and practice routines, and how I should go about the weekend. Seems like early nock times are best because you can shoot all day?

I’ve been starting to stretch out my shooting to about 70lbs since that’s what I have in my yard, and getting my gear dialed in. But I will dragging my target onto some land I can shoot out to 120 and also find uphill, down hill and side hill shots for 3rd axis adjustment.

Everything about TAC looks fun, so I’m looking forward to hearing about it.

Oh yea, How many arrows should I bring??

I've done a few now and shoot 3d fairly regular. I'll lose one arrow or so at TAC. I'd do a few local shoots before ya go, make sure your axis' on your sight is dailed perfect, have a good sight tape (precision cut archery with a labradar or garmin is the ticket) and you shouldn't be losing many arrows.

I’ve gone to VT a few times now. Be prepared to shoot out to 140, depending on which course you do. If you go the Sitka or Prime courses, your average will be anywhere from 60-90. The longest is a bison at 140ish on Prime. Make sure your sight tape is accurate and your axis adjustments are right.

140??? I did not know that. That’s crazy haha.

Is doing 2 days enough? I was thinking of doing Friday and Saturday.

Yeah if you want to shoot 2 or more courses. I usually just go one day, shoot one course. Typically either Sitka or Prime. I’m from CT, so it’s just a 3 hour drive. Leave early get home late.

Yea, it’s closer to 4 hours for me so I’ll probably be staying at least one night or more.

When can I expect to see the tickets go up for sale? Does it fill up fast?

They go up for sale at some point in February. If you have instagram or facebook they’ll post in the next couple weeks what date it’ll be. Yes they go fast. You’ll have to be on their website and ready to pick the course and time.

I have done the southeast one the last 4 years. Doing it again in TN this year. Also planning to head to one out west or north this year as well. Looking at either CO, UT or SD

Bring a dozen extra arrows you’re willing to lose! It’s fun to push your limits and see what you can actually do, but some of the courses will absolutely blow up your arrows if you miss.

I hope the weather is ok. Is it always windy in the mountain? Wind must make it so much harder. I’m still working on finding a spot to shoot out past 70 yds.

Do most guys bring their exact hunting rig or are they setting up a TAC specific bow?

Some people have a 3D specific setup… I don’t. I think of TAC as practice and use my hunting setup, quiver on, loaded with arrows. Whatever floats your boat though.

Always windy? No. The Utah TAC event last year was sunny, calm winds.

Yea, I like the idea of just having my hunting bow, but it’s definitely at a serious disadvantage for the course. I shoot it well but I don’t run much for stabs. I never plan to shoot at a deer more than 40yds and I practice out to 70, but beyond that it would be nice to have a little help. I may tweak what I have to be a little better for TAC but not be a full on 3D competition bow.

I'm putting together a bow to shoot my first TAC event here in N.C. Longest target is 130 yards and I'm not sure I will even attempt it. It will be fun just watching I believe.

I was on the fence to register for that one, ads quit popping up so I’m assuming registration is closed. Also, I don’t think it’s a TAC event, just a 3D shoot modeled after TAC.

Don't over think TAC. Wear good shoes, dress appropriately, carry water and an extra release have fun.

I only have 1 bow so I shoot what I have. My sight tape is limited to about 90 yards so that's as far as I shoot. If I had the money I'd have a Tac bow shooting light arrows so I could extend my range.
