What 400 Legend Rifle To Buy?

Looking to buy a 400 legend rifle and not sure what rifle to buy. Not a huge Savage guy but their 220 slug gun works well for me. Winchester? Wish Tikka made one. Or do I buy a MGM barrel for my TC pro hunter ? Thoughts?

I just got a Ruger American gen 2. Purchased the 16" barrel version to put a suppressor on for next year deer season hopefully. Also just ordered a DuraMag flush fit magazine to go with it. Shot pretty good at the range, definitely a jump in accuracy AND range from my 870 slug gun. Had it maybe two weeks and already dropped a doe on the spot with it using the winchester 215 gr bullets.

I have a G1 American in 350 legend and I love it. Mine has the AR15 magazine system, however, which I've heard is a vast improvement to the Ruger rotary mag.

I went with the Savage 110 in 400 Legend this year, am not a big Savage guy either. In southern MI now, so wanted to try something different in the old shotgun zone. So far it is better than I expected. Accurate within effective range and handles better than I thought. The bolt was very tight at first but has loosened up.

I too ordered a DuraMag flush fit mag. Not a fan of the look of the giant AR mag sticking out. Worried about it hanging up on things actually.

I too went with the Ruger Gen2. Mines the grey/stainless version and is shooting clover leafs with the Winchester XP bullet at 100 yds. I was easily able to take it out to 300 yds in Sept.

I also chose the Ruger because its cerakoted. In late season. We get snow and all my rifles are stainless steel (or cerakote) for the weather.

Had a large group of guys at the range sighting in rifles for our antelope hunt and a few others getting ready for their elk hunts. Every one of them wanted to try my 400L. And everyone of them was shocked what it could do.

And all these guys (myself included) are big deer hunters who have used slug guns for 30 yrs. The performance and range of that 400L and shooting it out to 300 made several mouths drop as they were impressed!

Last weekend, I went to reverify zero. Pippity-pop, clover leafs. Right where it was supposed to be and rounds right where they were set in Sept.

I had my 100, 200 and 300 yd zeros all set (i shoot hold overs), and so I had to go to a different range and get to the 250 yd range.

Took shots at 200 and 250, all rounds were 2 inches apart. I was stoked!

My 20ga was tossong 2.5-3 inch groups at 100yds. Good enough for "pie plate" accuracy at 100 yds.

I'm never going back to slug hunting. My Father In Law is doing his 1st deer hunt this year and hes using my 20ga.

I absolutely LOVE this Ruger Gen2.....and I'm a Savage guy, having a bunch of their heavy barrel varmint rifles, and also had a few Axis' over the yrs. Been trading up on the Axis to get Tikka T3x's.

Never any issues with Savage's, I liked em fine and everyone i have or know who has one they shot well--I just am a snob and wanted Tikka's. Most of my family also shoots Savage's, no issues at all.

This is/was my first Ruger Gen2 and wouldn't hesistate again to buy another in another caliber--but I'd also say that of my Savage's. The fit/finish of the Ruger IS better than the Axis. But im not kidding. I only care about accuracy and a good trigger.

I keep trying to get my dad to buy a Ruger Gen2 in 400L.

My only gripe about the Gen 1 Ruger American was that the AR mags made it impossible to carry the rifle by the center of mass. Center of mass was within the magazine area, so I couldn't just carry it with one hand cradling the stock at center mass.

Savage just released new 110s, 400L available....as well as a bunch of other interesting cartridges(22, 25, 6 creed, short 7BC, 6.8W, 338ARC, etc). New accufit stock that requires no tools, bolt "upgrades", short, threaded barrels available. Fairly heavy unless you go with a carbon barrel. Worth a look.

20 inch. I honestly didnt know they had a 22".

But im VERY pleased with mine. It shoots sub-MOA and I can put 3 shots in a coffee mug at 300 yds.
