I know most people view Washington as a lost cause, as a resident it's very discouraging. We really need to make our voices heard to take action on the stupidity happening in the commission. You can read more about it and take action at these HOWL links:

I don’t have a dog in this fight directly, but do recognize that these “battleground states” are blueprints for the rest of us

For what it’s worth, the latest Rokcast has a significant amount of discussion about that commission specifically, from a biologist who has worked in the state for a long time.

Hopefully @robby denning can help us rally the same amount of support from influencers and industry members as they did to get the W in CO!!

Side note - don't disregard the house and senate bills being introduced to strip more of our 2A rights away, use the state Gov website to personally contact your legislators!!

Thanks for that info, I didn't listen to this one yet but I will!

I have also been sending in positions on those as well. I love hunting in this state most of the time but man this state really hates it's sports men and women.

Is the newest commissioner anti-hunting? It sort of looked like it but i could not be 100% sure from profiles from different places that i was able to find.

That is what I am hearing. It was also a last minute appointment that had no input from user groups that is state mandated.

Big thank you to HOWL for keeping all of us in the loop over these wildlife issues!

Hey guys this is a great discussion and I’d like to jump in. I’m the one who was on that podcast with Woody (Commissioner Myers). We’ve got our work cut out for us in this state, and there aren’t going to be any easy answers. I’d recommend all hunters become as educated on the Fish and Wildlife Commission as possible, watch or attend the meetings, submit comments, reach out to the commissioners individually, and basically look for any way to become engaged.

Something really important we can advocate for is a clear and transparent decision making process. A public policy body should not leave its constituents in the dark about how decisions are made, and we’re on really firm footing to ask for improvements in that arena.

I don’t have any intel on the new commissioner, but I’ll be trying to learn what I can. We’re going to have to work with her so I urge us all to look for the things we can collaborate on, and do everything we can to present ourselves as good faith partners. On points of contention present we’ll reasoned, logical arguments, keep it friendly, and don’t let up.

I've served on wdfw advisory boards and have witnessed how far out in left field our bios can be from reality.

@robby denning and @Dan Russell - I was thrilled to see WA highlighted in the most recent Rokcast episode, thank you!

Our wildlife commission is empowered due to lack of accountability, and they have positioned themselves at the head of the wildlife management decision making table rather than letting WDFW biologists lead on management. I am hopeful the findings in the Ruckelshaus report and election changes in 2025 will be an opportunity for us to create some balance.

I have spoken at many recent commission meetings and at times it feels like I'm talking to a wall. I encourage everyone to call their local senators and house representatives in WA. The commission needs reform, it is being tracked in the house and senate, and emphasizing the need for reform will produce change in the long run. Keep at it!

Do you have some examples of decisions they’ve made that go against the management recommendations of the biologists? I’m curious to know what exactly we’re dealing with from somebody who’s been involved!
